Microsoft Visual C++2008 Error
Hello

I have a problem that many people have. It's about Microsoft Visual C ++ 2008.

All Visual C ++ can be installed with me, just not this. What bothers me about it is that it keeps coming back, even if I delete it from the SWTOR Steam folder.

Unfortunately, I don't know how to deactivate it and whether the support will answer you there. Because as a non-subscriber, I cannot write in the forums.

I have Windows 10 Home.

Thanks in advance.

Greetings Heidi

This is very strange, I tested it by downloading the site and downloading it from Steam. It's the same for both. I found many on the Internet with this error, but unfortunately no solution.

Such an error was also reported years ago in the English forum of SWTOR.

Steam now stores vcredist, directx etc in Steam\steamapps\common\Steamworks Shared\_CommonRedist besides i checked and i have already installed these vcredist files on my PC probably it was installed with other game or when i installed SWTOR before it was on Steam

Well the solution in most cases is reinstall all Visual C++ runtimes. You can download it again via Visual C++ Redistributable Runtimes All-in-One from sites such as MajorGeeks or https://www.techpowerup.com/download/visual-c-redistributable-runtime-package-all-in-one/

Once had it too ages ago, this worked for me.

Do you mean I uninstall all Visual C ++ first and then C ++ 2008?

Here are the evidence and error message.

Well for me it was ages ago, never done these things in Steam. Removing custom packages of MVC++ other games rely on, may cause these games to stop working. This is a very common problem with games installed via the Steam client. I had the luxury I did an install on a nearly empty computer and the game was not on Steam. Switched pc's at the time so only had to update.

Have you already tried to do a clean install of SWTOR ? Because that sometimes does the trick too.

The issue is the version of the VC Redist it try to install is older then the one already installed on your computer. The way I solved this is to uninstall the 2019-2019 (x86) VC Redist that caused the problem, and let Steam install it with it's release... It will be updated (or not) by another program later and the problem should vanish. This is a known recurrent issue with many games on Steam, but it's not Steam's fault, more likely the script EA put on Steam which request a specific version rather than the latest one. Either way, the game run fine with one or another release.

EDIT // Following up my own post, I checked the launcher logs :
2020-09-13 15:59:37 INFO Forcing patch of VCRT2015-2019 2020-09-13 15:59:39 INFO Patching group: vc2017 -1->0 2020-09-13 15:59:39 ERROR unknown group (vc2017) 2020-09-13 15:59:39 INFO Patching file: vc2017 -1->0

On the second run after uninstalling previous version :
2020-09-14 12:55:20 INFO Launching update of VCRT2015-2019 due to it not being installed.

And that's all so it solved the issue... I think in fact if it get updated by another installer, I'll run into the issue again as it is the EA/Bioware launcher that do not recognize the newest release of the VC...

On a final note, this is the launcher who download back the VC Redist, not any shadow copy from Steam.
