It used to be worse but as a purely F2P, You can play all 8 classes main story + the Hutt Cartel and Shadows of Revan expansion.

The only real negative is the number of PvP matches you could play per character per week but I doubt it'll bother you.

You're also capped at level 60, your inventory will be smaller, and (im not sure if this is still a thing) you can't equip purple gear without buying some authorization or something.

edit: Oh and you won't have access to Knights of the Fallen Empire and Knights of the Eternal Throne expansions which should be FREE by now! It's been like 7 years!

PVP was made uncapped i believe.

Yes, this is the best mmo in terms of story/rpg imo so getting all that for free +2 expantions is a great deal

You'll need to unlock content at some point so you'll have to sub from time to time, but it'll be over a LONG period of time, as in if you sub right now to unlock all the current content you're good for maybe a couple of years until the next expansion drops.

Other than those unlock month long subs, playing F2p (or more correctly Premium) works just fine.

Limitations of someone who plan to only play F2P in SWTOR:

• Your level cap is permanently set at Level 60, meaning you will never have access to any skills that are exclusively unlocked in the Skills Tree past level 60
  
• You will never have access to high quality gear, augments, and their set bonuses
  
• You'll permanently earn less EXP and in-game credits
  
• Extremely limited access to Inventory and Cargo Hold space
  
• No access to Guild Banks
  
• Absolutely no access to the SWTOR's TRUE end game: playing barbie on your characters, companions, and ships
