The playstyles are the same, the visuals and flavors are different. I.E. story and animations.
There are eight classes for each faction. They mirror one another (e.g. Jedi Sentinel and Sith Marauder are mirror classes)
However the stories are vastly different.
As others wrote, the class abilities are mirrored but each has unique animations. The base classes for each advanced class also have unique stories. 16 advanced classes, 8 base classes, 8 unique stories.

Jedi Knight / Sith Warrior
Jedi Guardian = Sith Juggernaut
Jedi Sentinel = Sith Marauder

Jedi Consular / Sith Inquisitor
Jedi Sage = Sith Sorcerer
Jedi Shadow = Sith Assassin

Republic Trooper / Bounty Hunter
Commando = Mercenary
Vanguard = Powertech

Smuggler / Imperial Agent
Scoundrel = Operative
Gunslinger = Sniper

I'd have said the trooper and agent are more similar. Gunslinger = Mercernary, Scoundrel = Powertech. For Trooper and Agent, Operative = Vanguard, but of course Sniper and Commando have very different styles.

EDIT: Typo

In story that would be the case. The legendary status thing even matches them up like that. But in gameplay, it's Trooper=Bounty Hunter and Smuggler=Agent. Scoundrel and Operative have stealth. Gunslinger and Sniper have cover.

Nah, Trooper = BH and Smuggler = Agent

The share the same skills just with different animations.

No, what he said is 100% true. Trooper is literally the mirror to Bounty Hunter, not agent. For example, a Commando(Trooper) and a Mercenary(Bounty Hunter) are the same class essentially. Their abilities are identical, the only difference is animations and visuals. You can play a Commando and you already know how to play a Mercenary because they are the same class.
