This video goes over everything you need to know when starting SWTOR, including subscription details:

Then you move into the next 2 expansions and you'll either like em or hate them. While I didn't mind the story plot for those 2, others that have played non force users through it think it doesn't make sense. (I played a non force user through it and just never lost sight that I was playing a video game and generally most things don't make sense).
Then you have a longish set which is pretty good and then get into the latest content which has an interesting story line, it's just coming out in dribs and drabs so it's hard to keep track what's going on.
SWTOR is a fun game, gives you your SW vibe nicely.
also gw2 has no sub. swtor ull need the sub to play conveniently, especialy if u want to buy things from other players at market.
id say long term gw2 wins, short term swtor has the best scenario i ever seen in an mmo.
Other than that in my opinion Swtor is a far better experience over all. the stories are great, the Cash shop is a lot better, the game overall is just superior. For myself i've found the community way less toxic as well here.
Guildwars 2 has way too much emphasis on multiplayer hardcore experience to progress. also there are so many currencies.. The last two expacs were atrocious in GW2..
Gw2 is a lot more expensive as well needing all the expacs, all the mini expacs to play the complete stories and access everything with friends.
(GW2 shove ALL story quests in your face as soon as you reach the level you could unlock them with no regards to your story progressions, so you could end up doing things you are not supposed to be doing yet and then do things that preceed the things you had just done after you have done it)
GW2 has better world and one of the best combat. It also has world public events system which make the world more alive.
However it has no housing and unlike SWTOR/WoW/and FF14, GW2's outfitter/glamour/teansmog cost premium currency. You can grind them by making new characters and deleting them again over and over but it is still a currency that cost real money.
The reason people praise GW2 over SWTOR is because GW2 is a better MMORPG than SWTOR. But SWTOR is a better single player game (with multiplayer features).
SWTOR is fantastic for a traditional tab target feel.
The atmosphere and questing are very immersive, and you can totally get away with playing this by yourself, through Flashpoints (Dungeons) are really fun in this.
It does have a much smaller, but dedicated community.
GW2 is action combat oriented, the classes are weird and wonderful and having self taught myself it was a bit of a steep learning curve. The storyline is also fantastic, though amps up from the expansions and is a flowing continuation throughout the game.
It has a different approach to questing, but the overworld content with events and bosses means you'll generally have other people always around and working together, even if not grouped.
If you're a PVPer as well though, then it's GW2 hands down.
- Fits the Star Wars fantasy extremely well
- Everything is voice acted
- Combat feels dated but is still very nice, especially tab targeting
- Recently switched to 64-bit cilent and graphic overhauls.
- Subscribing for one month unlocks all current content (with some restrictions that someone can elaborate further)
Cons:
- Still suffers from the DX9 camera rotation bug (anyone that dismisses this is lying)
- Player character visual wise could use an update compared to later expansion characters.
- Monthly subscription
- Current economy is super inflated if I recall correctly
Video that hyped me for SWTOR:

- Continuation from the first Guild Wars (250 year time skip)
- Combat/Classes feel very fluid and dynamic
- Alt character friendly
- No subscription fee (Buy once, play whenever)
- No P2W (anyone that dismisses this is, again, lying)
- Recently switched to DX11 api (was DX9 before)
Cons:
- Has weird difficulty spikes varying per expansion
- No dual profession mixing like GW1 (my own personal issue)

Warzone are fun as well
