SWG Legends is a more immersive experience, but being an emulator of a game that was first released in 2002, it can feel quite dated, especially in movement. Another major problem with SWG Legends is that it doesn't have a very active community anymore. You'll mostly find people online are just AFK farming with very few people actively playing the game at any given time.
SWG was/is a much better Star Wars game though. Without doubt.
If you want a simpler, themepark style game in the same vein of WoW that is heavily story-driven and cinematic and more of a single player RPG with optional MMO elements, pick SWTOR... More of a "story revolves around you" game.
While obviously more archaic, if you want an open-world community-driven sandbox with open world housing/player cities, robust crafting that's so in-depth that no MMO since has matched it, pick SWG... More of a "live in the Star Wars universe" game. If you pick SWG, I suggest you watch Napyet's SWG playlist on YouTube to learn more about the game and its systems, as it can be overwhelming at first for new players. Here's a video that's a good intro/summary of the game from 4 months ago, as well: https://youtu.be/KSOP-gIJTcU?si=86EmBK1s2yNCE2lE
Honestly, because it's so damn janky and dated, if you aren't playing one of the hybrid servers (the original build or the community-modded one) I don't see much of a point of putting up with it. At least with those you get all the crazy customization and RPG elements to go along with the jank. NGE took away a crap ton of that when it was released.
Otherwise, I would go with SWTOR. The class stories alone can take up a significant amount of time and the first couple of expansions weren't too bad either. Once the Eternal Empire arc starts, that's a good time to bounce. Game got really silly at that point and only went downhill. But that's literally after hundreds of hours of content if you take all the original class stories into account.
SWTOR is basically KOTOR 3 at this point, just with more selection on what you want your character to be. But each of the class stories are unique and even support one each other throughout the narrative.
I got the SWG Legends to give it a try and there was 1200 players online
There are 99k players playing Old School Runescape too. Do you think nostalgia isn't a factor there either? The very name itself implies such.
You do realize that the age of the game might have nothing to do with why these people are playing these games, and they are playing them simply because they're good games right?
You play SWG to experience the past and the feelings associated with it. Whether they're your own or simply understanding what others once had.
While nostalgia CAN be a reason someone plays a game (any game not just SWG), it doesn't necessarily have to play a part, but you seem to just see it as "old game = nostalgia" full stop. I see Reddit threads pop up literally almost every day on the SWG and SWGLegends subreddits of brand new players looking for help/tips because they've never played the game before and heard about it strictly through YouTube/TikTok/Discord. Some weren't even born when SWG released. Your "Nostalgia is a an amazing drug" argument is invalid for that reason alone.
