In the movies, force users (Jedi / Sith) always seem way more powerful than tech users (smugglers, bounty hunters). If that's your perspective, it's always going to feel weird with all the force users you have to fight. This is an MMO though, so the combat styles have to be relatively balanced. If tech users couldn't hold their own, there wouldn't be much they could do in the game or the story.
The original smuggler combat styles were Scoundrel and Gunslinger. They have abilities that thematically fit the smuggler archetype, but you are roleplaying your character's story. You can come up with any reason to play other combat styles. For example with Vanguard, your character could be an ex-soldier who left the army because there was more money in smuggling. Or for Powertech, it could be your character was a gun for hire that found smuggling to be easier and more profitable than bounty hunting.
I played all classes in this game and I really like the stealth classes.
