what is best combat style for smuggler (solo play) ?
I have scoured the internet for answer and was met with either conflicting information or outdated information. Or simply "best is what the most fun to you" which is not very helpful.

I tried scoundrel and it felt ok but:
-scrapper drunkinly punching combat robots, heavily armored soldiers and space wizards feels wrong. I know there is a mirror Operative spec that uses swords or something but it does not feel right either, not for smuggler at least.
-ruffian did not felt right, and i was not impressed by brutal shot.

I tried gunslinger but was almost immidiatly turned off that it requires you to sit in cover. Maybe i was wrong and it would get better later on? I really did not got far with it.

I tried commando but:
- gunnery rotation was just spamming grav shot, and it also felt very stationary.
- assault specialist felt very weak and did not had much to offter, at least at the level i was at.
- several sources i viewed claimed gunnery/assault spec being bad rn.

From your list, it looks like you haven't tried Vanguard / Powertech. Maybe one of them will be better for you? These are melee combat styles with three disciplines: tank, damage over time dps, and burst dps. Vanguard uses a blaster rifle while Powertech uses a single blaster.

In the movies, force users (Jedi / Sith) always seem way more powerful than tech users (smugglers, bounty hunters). If that's your perspective, it's always going to feel weird with all the force users you have to fight. This is an MMO though, so the combat styles have to be relatively balanced. If tech users couldn't hold their own, there wouldn't be much they could do in the game or the story.

The original smuggler combat styles were Scoundrel and Gunslinger. They have abilities that thematically fit the smuggler archetype, but you are roleplaying your character's story. You can come up with any reason to play other combat styles. For example with Vanguard, your character could be an ex-soldier who left the army because there was more money in smuggling. Or for Powertech, it could be your character was a gun for hire that found smuggling to be easier and more profitable than bounty hunting.

Makes sense. Either that or gunslinger, it has 3 damage specs, one of them is gotta be good and fun. But i have to overcome cover aversion.

Watch Youtube gameplay of each class and see if something clicks with you.

I love my Scoundrel with the Dot Specc, and with stealth you can be really fast by skipping mobs.
I played all classes in this game and I really like the stealth classes.

If you think of trash mobs and defeating them, stealth actual DPS is out of this world! :)

Scoundrel is the role of choice for my Smuggler. When I'm not using stealth (paired with sleep dart) to bypass trash mobs, I'm running in the healer roll in World Boss hunts and Flashpoints. (Healers are hard to find in this game, but I love being one.)
