No other 'firearms' exist within SWtOR aside from the Scoundrel's scatterguns. The rest are all pew-pew blasters. However some of the devs have designed blasters that look like actual real-world firearms with some sci-fi additions. The Rascal's Way blaster closely resembles an M1911 or similar .45ACP pistols.
Paired with an Advanced White-Black crystal, there is no glowing on the magazine and no center to the bolt fired, with only a slight white aura that can be thought of as a bullet and the air disruption caused by the bullet. Think Matrix bullet trails.
The Causality can also be used (through the outfitter) as a skin for sniper rifles, so Pistol, Rifle, and Sniper users can all be given slug throwers.
Most tunings destroy the old fashioned slug thrower aesthetic.
Strap Attached Tuning looks really good and continues the old fashioned feel, as well as being visible when holstered.
Festive Snowfall adds a smoking barrel effect which can also look good on a slug thrower.
Repair Droid, Geonosiah Egg, Dread Seed, and Creep are the only other tunings that do not immediately turn the weapons back into energy weapons, but would be very character theme dependent.
Advanced White-Black crystals can also be used with the various gatling cannons, but without the bullet shell ejections.
Strap Attached no longer works as it attaches the strap to a fixed position in space while the barrel clips through while spinning.
Festive Snowfall looks even better as a gatling's barrel should be smoking. Also, the intermittence of this particular tuning's smoke makes it fit with the spinning barrels where the constancy of the barrel effects of other tunings does not.
Edit:
Revolver like pistols could also be used with any of the Advanced White-Black crystals as Revolvers do not eject shells when fired.
You can always imagine that your character is pocketing the shells when reloading. Possibly to reuse them.
