Probably never. The fact that the game has its own launcher to start from and no controller support will always preclude it from becoming Steam Deck verified.

It doesn't have to though, because it runs perfectly fine on the Steam Deck in its current playable state.

SWTOR CAN and DOES use PC game controllers via Steam Overlay / Big Picture mode. You just have to setup your controller inside Steam Big Picture mode and then have the Overlay come into being when you start SWTOR in-Steam. BINGO. Voila. idk about steam deck since i do not have one, but try that.

That's obvious, because your comment completely misses the point. Valve has a program that tests games on the Steam Deck according to Input, Display, Seamlessness and System Support. It doesn't matter whether you can set up a controller to work in Big Picture mode for the game or even use a Steam Controller to play it, since the Steam Deck is like an upgraded version of a Steam Controller anyway just with an APU and a display attached to it. The game still does not support controller input glyphs and relies on a mouse and keyboard control scheme by default, so all the inputs have to be translated to work on a controller.

It was only recently I was informed that Steam had a console, so I did look it up and it looks like it's a PSP from around 2000. Would a game like this even be playable on such a small system?

Some people just like to act like they are well-informed or have a lot of knowledge on subjects while under a veil of hidden facts.

The point to the last part is if you think it would be possible without completely rewriting the game at its base to accommodate such a device, then it might happen given enough demand for the item.

Indeed. And some other people don't like to hear certain answers and react with ad hominem attacks and even go so far as to abuse the report system in order to silence the people behind those answers they don't like.

But to give you the benefit of the doubt and answer your question: Yes, the game works quite well on such a small system. Because it is not a PSP from around 2000, but a modern handheld with a Zen 2 and RDNA 2 architecture combined with the functionality and flexibility of a Steam Controller regarding control inputs. It is so powerful and competitively priced that it has led to a surge of new handhelds being developed by the other big companies on the market.

Is there some reason you insist on directing your comments to me?

And nobody is abusing the report system, How exactly would you know who reported what, this information isn't public?

And if you are a moderator on an alt account, wouldn't you agree that you harassing people for no reason would warrant your own dismissal?

This makes 3 times you directly attacked me, and I would love to know the reason.

Maybe then one of your supervisors will relieve you of your duties.

I was trying to answer your question what the Steam Deck is about and that the game works well on it. You can even look up some youtube videos as a demonstration if you are curious:

I just go by your own admission:

Just so you know, I went ahead and reported you to steam directly, Nowhere on your profile does it claim that you are a DEV or Moderator, you do not have the right to go around threatening people with "warnings".

You enjoy your life.

if you say so, but there is a huge time gap there, you enjoy your life.

If there is a Steam Deck "Right Mouse Button" equivalent for using mouselook in games like swtor you can map that button as a toggle in the controller scheme to emulate mouselook.

Yes, you can do that. You can map for example the second right shoulder button to work as a right mouse click and then map the right trackpad to work as mouselook (which is my preferred control scheme for the game on the Deck). This is the beauty of the Steam Controller and the Steam Deck inherited all of that functionality in an upgraded form as a handheld.

It still does not qualify as a Steam Deck "Verified" game and only as "Playable" though, because the game natively does not support controller input glyphs, which is one of the parameters for the test. Another one is that the game does not run directly from Steam, but forces you to log into its own launcher so you have to use the virtual keyboard to type in the info. However, this does not change the fact that the game runs pretty good on the Steam Deck considering that you play on a handheld without a mouse and keyboard. The performance is solid.

What a numpty psp from 2000 lol. You have no clue what you are talking about. The thing plays PC games at better fps than the original Xbox one and PS4 era. Just at a slightly lower resolution. It's a gaming PC handheld. Does this game perfectly. I mean it's not as good as my zen 3 12 core gaming PC with Rx 6800. But it's the next best thing Zen 2 but is still RDNA 2 like my Rx 6800. Steam deck is aa relative beast. I am waiting for mine to be dispatched right as we speak. Bought it opened but as new on eBay Cos got sick waiting for steam to restock. Not a speck on it judging by photos and I cannot wait.

It runs fine, but you'll need to get creative with setting up a control scheme.

It already does you buy the dock for your steam desk and then just plug in a keyboard and mouse and then just play on your big screen tv. and for the issue of playing it on the go there are bluetooth foldable keybards and mini mice that you could attach to the device and all you would need is a place to prop up the console. I'm playing SWTOR on Ubuntu and yes it loads a bit different but i will say this it runs better there then a bloated windows machine could dream. Oh and by the way Steam OS which i'm sure thats what it runs on is a Linux Kernel. I see no reason why this should not work even a little bit. unless the developers limit the inputs for some stupid reason.

I play almost exclusively with a PS5 dual sense controller. Took some doing to figure out how to map it out to something I can feel comfy with and not get overloaded with skills, while also setting up the quickbars in a way that made visual sense to represent the controller (since PS glyphs aren't a thing).

I have the keybinds and UI preference XML files for it. The steam inputs config i'm not 100% sure how to export, though.

I don't know if the steam deck has an equivalent of L3 and R3, but on the dualsense I use R3 as a toggle that simple acts as the mouse right click, held down when toggled, and released when toggled off. Switches between character control via camera/facing and mouse cursor UI scrolling/etc. Works great, though not 100% perfect. Sometimes the game will interrupt your right click toggle and draw the mouse cursor on the screen, so you're toggle will still be 'on', and requires a double click to sync it back to the mode switchl.

Usually happens before every boss fight where there's a cutscene. Get a half second as the start fights where you have to force the toggle to sync again so you can move around, but other than that it works great.
