Isn't there an unlock for cartel coins also? but yeah it's a sub only thing

Not sure. I don't think I've ever played without a sub.

Click on the eye icon near helmet (either in gear screen or in outfitter, depending on what you're using).

probably would have been nice if they told us if they were a subscriber or f2p cause you have to be a sub at the time that you click that hide helmet feature, guess we'll never know
