Some of the stuff is very good, some not so much. Side quests are still side quests like in any other mmo, just dressed up nicer.
The game is known for it's story and that's it's strong point, but it is a game at it's heart and not a novel so as long as you accept that you should enjoy yourself.
This pretty much. The other issue is after 50, like some others have said. The issue isn't that the story is weak, it's not. It's that the story was written with the light-side Jedi Knight in mind, and everything else was pigeon-holed into it, to various degrees of success.
It's only recently that the writers have begun to wite for the bounty hunter in mind, which of course probably can be directly connected to the Mandalorian's popularity.
One other issue is that the writers have practically zero creativity after 50. There are only two main enemies you ever fight, and every single storyline leads eventually back to one of those two enemies. So my guess, is that even though the Bounty Hunter storyline is based around the Bounty Hunter, it's going to lead back to a force user, and tied back into the Jedi Knight storyline.
Welcome to Star Wars, where every storyline, whether game, tv show, or movie, has to revolve around the Jedi/Sith conflict.
Other than that it's a bit rough around the edges
Class stories are much much better but it is also good in Eternal Empire story which is two big expansions.
I recommend playing Imperial Agent story first, it is better than most class stories.
@wirednight Good to know that it seems to be built around the Jedi Knight in the first instance, I'll probably start with that.
So when I say "built around the Jedi Knight" I mean that a lot of what happens into the big expansions makes more sense if you play as a Knight. Warrior is still strong in the storyline too. Then the other force using classes, then the rest of us poor chumps.
Agent, as mentioned above, has, arguably, one of the best storylines in SWTOR. Then you hit KOTFE and KOTET and you're wondering what the heck is going on and why your agent is still even around.
"Good" is subjective, but the writing and production of the stories is good enough to re-play over with a different gender, a different species, a different body type and personality or different light side or dark side decisions, or picking a different romance option (some class stories let you pick one of a couple options, sometimes you can pit them against eachother to see what happens).
I'd give the storytelling a nine if not ten. The stories all wind together and reference one another and refer to the actions taken in the story of some of the other class roles and their companions refer sometimes to one another. Bowdaar knows Mako for example, and Doc knows Kaliyo and even asks to bring her on the Consular's ship for a moment (Kaliyo is a romance option for the Imperial Agent).
Give it a shot. Most agree the Imperial Agent is the best or one of the best. I have a spoiler-free description of each story if you like, to see perhaps which to start with (any choice is fine, some flow a bit better).
I'd love that if you have the time, thanks for the info
