This game will close before they ever spend real money on it, at this point.
This game is all about the amazing story and the endgame outfitting your character to look amazing is real.
What do you want them to look like? 4k? 8k? those types of games are singleplayer FPS shooters or singleplayer RPGs man. If you want MMORPGs to have great stories, voiceacting and also 4k graphics, come on now.
This game has eight interwoven stories which all touch and interact with one another's class roles and then becomes a real RPG space opera in the endgame.
So I am guessing you've not played the endgame content where the graphics are turned way up.
Post back when you get there, ok?
Thanks for the update, but I'm not interested in going back. Spent 3 years suffering through that copy/paste coding mess. Bugged abilities/stats, DDOS, goofy story missions, and other nonsense. Only thing that interested me was the ship diversity and space combat. I'll wait for the next Star Trek game.
That said, trying to compare the two as a game is like comparing hell dogs and lizards. There really is no comparison past the juvenile ideas of some nerds that you can like either Star Trek or Star Wars and not both.
STO has 3 linear stories and some great space content. I think the devs give better rewards for playing their games in STO as well, compared to the daily crap we get in SWTOR (though with this new update that may change). Ground combat in SWTOR is better the STO.
SWTOR has the better stories to be honest with better replayability. STO has the advantage though in skipping parts of the story that is absolutly dreadful (looking at you New Romulus) while SWTOR is you don't like part of the main story, you still have to slog through it (looking at you Trooper).
End game wise, both are just grinds really. STO has the slight advantage here of easier to get end-game optimization though to do it right SWTOR is a lot cheaper on your real world pocket book if you want to optimize (looking at STOs $120.00 for a single ship.) EA you just have to grind and it's store is mostly cosmetic.
SWTOR has better cosmetics for your characters, but you spend a lot more time looking at your characters in SWTOR then you do in STO where it's split between space and ground.
Edit: As to graphics, you're looking at it slightly wrong. STO may have better graphics, but in space it's easier to just have a black background and concentrate on just the single space station. It's also different on ground as well. In SWTOR that background you can see is probably somewhere you can explore. In STO it's a pretty picture and you're on rails so they can concentrate just on the stuff in immediate range.
Finally lets be honest, in STO, every planet you pretty much explore is a garden world. Vulcan and Andoria are probably the two biggest wastelands and they're not much better graphically then tatooine and Hoth. The garden worlds in SWTOR the you do go to, tend to be battle zones with smoke and ash and such (a too many mobs creatures). STO is all on tracks again and every world is a beautiful world.
The Reboot version of it sucks big time.....
Considering that STO has been out a little longer and that the developers have had to revise and revise again with their game, hiring a lot of voice actors and so forth. It's something of a minor miracle that STO can even get close to SWTOR on graphics for a comparison.
SWTOR has always had better graphics, if not slightly cartoonish and the developers didn't really need to do all that much revision as it has always been like this since beta. obviously there has been additional graphical improvements here and there, but essentially it's still the same as it was since just before launch.
Like i warmed up to it after starting playing but graphics are still a flaw you look past to enjoy the things the game does well not a selling point unlike it is for a game like okami dispite it's age
Thanks for answering my question. I'll leave the graphically primitive and stagnant SWTOR Cartoony graphics mess alone. GG
