You won't have any problems if you sub via swtor.com. Unless you really have to use the steam wallet or have the system track how many hours you play there's really no benefit to using steam.

Download the game via Steam. The original launcher defaults to using BitRaider, which causes numerous download and update issues. Disabling Bitraider requires a complete reinstall of the game. Steam has Bitraider disabled by default, and Steam manages game updates for you. Steam saves you time and headaches.

Subscribe and manage your account through the official website, though. Steam automatically links your steam account to the first SWTOR account you attempt to log in on, and this is why there are so many subscription issues. People don't have the correct account linked to Steam. Some people, even after ensuring they do have the right accounts linked, still have problems. EA/Bioware have been good about fixing this for people, but that takes time. It's faster to just sub through the website.

I reinstalled SW:ToR from the original launcher to steam and still buy my cartel coins and subscription from the official website.

Never had an issue.

As long as you link your steam with your SWTOR ID, there will be no problem.

Transactions through swtor site: Download and manage game via steam. Its pretty shameful state that the sub is on steam. Really proves dissatisfaction towards EA and Valve is fully justified. Just be sure its all linked/the same account.

Download through steam so you get the cards. Buy the sub through SWTOR so you actually get it

since 7.0 launch I have been subscribed through steam with zero issues. Also been an uninterrupted subscriber since start. So this is NOT exclusive to new members old accounts can benefit from it. Great if you live in a country which has a terrible exchange rate AND foreign transaction tax in addition to normal sales tax as well. (For me with steam 22.59 after sales tax. Old way, $40 after foreign transaction fee, conversion rate and sales tax) You can use steam wallet to pay for it no need for Credit Card.

The big problem which I've commented on elsewhere is getting the steam and Swtor account linked. Once that is done it should work. I do believe it is NOT instantaneous and takes up to 24 hours to clear, but once subscribed this way keep an eye on the due date in subscriptions and make sure you got the funds 24 hours before that date (if using wallet or debit card) and there should be no interruption of any kind.

I haven't had a problem through steam, but I prefer to use my wallet rather than paypal or a card. With Auto Renewal EA will charge my paypal instead of using my wallet. I think from here on out I am going to go with the 60 day time card options.
