I am sorry if this sounds cold. Nobody said it would be easier to create a new character in SWTOR (yes in 2021 its still that good of a feeling)
However, I can suggest you to make up your mind about a background story for your character before making it (what we know as RP) as the background stories the game itself will give are pretty much a stapled blank slate (so people tend to imagine how their character come to life). That will create the base for their character choices in game (responses to NPCs, dark/light/neutral mentality and so on)
I have 32 characters in this game (most are max level, some medium and some low level like) and I know the reason why they exist in the SWTOR universe and how they react to most in game dialogue interactions
That is just a suggestion I hope it will help
