Game stuck at black screen
Been trying alot of the suggestions that have been given to people for these issues, but none of them are working. Admin mode, renaming the files, uninstalling and reinstalling 4 times, restarting the computer multiple times. Still nothing is working. It still keeps getting stuck at the first screen of just pure black after clicking play. The microsoft redistribute thingy keeps popping up and clicking yes, no or the X buttons does nothing for any of them. Always a black screen and the mouse icon is a spinny circle. and alt F4 doesnt even work. have to delete it from the task manager. Any other ideas i havnt tried yet> Please help, i havnt been able to play for 3 almost 4 weeks now -_-

If I am right about the issue, they won't be able to as it will load into a Black Screen. And cannot do anything except restart the PC.

Lakemine, did you alter the Resolution in Fullscreen mode; If my above statement is correct, You'll need have to completely uninstall/reinstall the game. And if I were you, do it from the Website not Steam.

Done that 4 times. still will not work. Uninstalled, and before clicking play, re-verified. Still nothing has changed.

It still uses BitRaider as a Third Party installer.

Possible Black Screen FIX: Disable Steam OVERLAY

There are other possible fixes as well.

As for bitraider;
You DO NOT need bitraider even today.

I used this

Disabaling the Steam overlay did nothing. And how do i find bitraider to delete in the Steam files? searched and couldnt find it.

You CAN'T Delete BitRaider and Expect the Game to work. BitRaider is the games Launcher that downloads each Update.

WRONG! DONT SAY THINGS YOU DONT KNOW!

Bitraider IS NOT the launcher it is just a way they pass on the cost of hosting the game.

I Play SWTOR without Bitraider every day.

Steam may not use bitradier as they do have their own CDN and you may download directly from SWTOR instead when you update.

I have not installed the steam version myself I use the non bitraider launcher setup that I linked to play, I figured if the steam version was giving you issues if you have enough bw you could try to download the game via that guide which would keep you from getting Bitraider on your computer but still allow to play the game.

-- info Below this point is from the edit --

I mentioned bitraider as another user has brought it up and I just replied to that one.
I should have quoted that user sorry for any confusion.

I figured the first cause of the black screen would be the steam overlay as it is a very common problem with many games.

Next I would suggest you try to install the DirectX 9 runtimes.

The next thing that I can suggest you do is DELETE your game config and settings and start clean.

To do this I suggest you make a copy of the folder first just as a precaution but they should auto generate clean.

Locate and Backup:
C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Local\SWTOR
C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Local\SWTORPerf

Once you backed those up go ahead and delete them.

If you dont know how to find Appdata:
You can get there via typing %appdata% in the location bar or run box by hitting the Windows Key+R . this will take you to the Roaming folder you need to go up a Directory directly and then into the Local Folder :)

If that dose not fix the issue we can also try to manually edit those config files to see if we cant get it to launch.

I hope that helps you out a bit.

This specific thing didnt help, but it lead me to find the hidden file for the launcher settings. changed the fullscreen from "true" to "false" and it worked. So thank you!

Glad that worked :)

I was going to suggest that next but most people don't want to manually edit configs so I always save that for last.

Enjoy the game hope that I run into you :)
