Enjoying everything including basic features being locked behind numerous pay walls?
I saw this was on Steam which means the forums are open to all players and not just "preferred players". I was just curious about what e͟v͟e͟r͟y͟o͟n͟e͟s͟ thoughts were on matter.

I'm pretty sure preferred players don't get a say on the official forums either, it's sub or nothing.

As for the topic, you don't really need any of the locked features if you play the free-to-play mode like it's kind of supposed to be, a solo, story heavy trial mode. There's nothing that will require you to get purple gear (or even blue by the way) for example.

I've only ever played F2p and haven't ever felt like I was missing anything because of the paywalls.

I think the people complaining they can't get subscriber content for free are entitled children, that's what I think.

They lock the forums to subscribers only?

As far as I know, yes, you need to have an active sub to write on the forums. It's been this way for years.

I subbed once just to get preferred status.

But I definitely think that this game isn't worth spending money on aside from a one time sub to get preferred.

For comparison, the sub is more expensive than the sub for FFXIV and thats a vastly superior game imo, the graphics alone are way better, everything feels more balanced, and you have a duty finder that makes sure every group has a healer and a tank, and those roles are actually necessary, all the group content I've done so far has been all dps groups

Sounds like vet mode fp and may be uprising, because everything else the group finder will insist on tanks and heals. (Or may be pvp? Best way to get heal in pvp is to team up with a healer.)

I almost exclusively heal. But when I play vm fp (rarely), I switch to dps. Because it's just faster when you add another gun. If teammates are good they don't need your tank/heal, if they are not good it is better to clear the adds yourself to save their skins. Either way you slow the whole team down by playing tank or healer.

So, consider vm fp a practice. Despite the difficulty, good teamwork still makes a huge difference in vm fp. Los, "Tank" swap, out of combat off heal, cleanse, use and respect soft cc etc. Not to mention mechanics, shortcuts, and sneaking pass trashes. When you are confident in your skills, we'd welcome you to try mm fp.

Edit: Oh, if you still have a sub or when you use a ref link, please do try sm op. They are easy, fun, and will definitely have tank and heal too. Groups will look for players on the fleet or on specific channels depending on the server.

Just remember to tell the party that you are new, whether you are upgrading to mm fp or trying out sm op for the first time.

Otherwise, I concur. I would have dumped this game if not for friends I made while playing it.

I don't think the system is unfair to free players, but I do think it is irritating for them.

F2P players get a lot of great content, but its harder to enjoy when you are locked out of a lot of character customization, group and PvP content, chat functions, etc.

If you don't care about looking fashionable, having the best gear, or group content in general, then F2P is a serviceable way to experience the many class stories.

If you do care about any of that, then SWTOR is going to make you miserable until you subscribe or quit.

They were vm fps, I'll try the other ones and see if that makes for a better experience

Considering you get the game, all the current and future expansions for 15$ a month its a pretty good deal when you compare it to other meta MMOs like WoW or FF where you need to purchase the game, expansions, AND a sub. Its also fully voice acted with interactive cutscenes and pretty story driven in every form of content, even endgame content has the greatest grouping of characters I've ever seen (lookin at you Dread Masters <3)

So if you wanna play it as a story game you can do it for free

if you wanna play it as an mmo you need a sub. Its only fair they spent hundreds of millions of dollars on it they need some form of income you monsters lol

Glad to hear it! Hmm... please make sure you got 306 gear, or close to it. They are called "master mode" for a reason. Best start with simple ones like Athiss, Directive 7, Red Reaper, False Emperor etc.

Edit: Note that SM OP doesn't have the soft gear requirement, or even much level requirement. Having good gears never hurt, though.

Even as sub player some customization option are locked behind by a paywall. Like the 2 new races in the SWTOR and this races is not been added yet to Legacy perks.

I know as a sub player you gain 500 cartel coins as sub and using security code 100 cartel coins. If your friend using your referral codes I believe you will gain 100 cartel coins if your friend is also a sub. This also some reason why SWTOR youtuber can easily access cartel stuff.

So this locked character customization can still be easily unlocked if you got friends playing SWTOR.

Even Inventory slot are also lock as sub player luckily in-game credits are easy to earn by grinding as a sub player.

Unify color mechanic is even buggy some armor pieces in the game will not work with this mechanic. Luckily it can be earn free for just using your friend referral code if he is a subs.

The only thing benefit as a sub player will be:
Monthly cartel coins which can be use to be freakin rich in the game
Exp Boast which is nice to have
Doing some daily Ops and Flashpoint to earn more credits
As a Guild master subscription is a must
Able to equip high end gear which is not needed on PVE class missions
Extra quickbars

Definitely the game have Pay2win if you are planning to do PVP in this game. The game is being maintain by Star Wars whales seriously the economy of this game is so inflated.

To be fair FFXIV and all its expansions are available as a single purchase

I was on board with what SWTOR offered, until I was just questing, got some awesome purple pants for my class, tried to equip them and saw that I need to pay for subscription in order to be able to do so. At that point something happened and I just closed the game from Task Manager and uninstalled it.

I'd rather they did it like LOTRO or ESO where you have to buy content, but what is already available is fully available. Of course LOTRO has garbage servers and it feels like it's on life support and ESO is B2P. Also LOTRO constantly has some UI pop ups that encourage you to buy a subscription so it's also annoying. But if we ignore these things, the way they handle this is way better.

ESO's content gets cheaper over time and LOTRO awards you points for just playing that you can use to buy more content.

If SWTOR was like either of those, I'd be OK with it, but these cheap tricks where you can't equip an item really sucks.

There is also the fact that SWTOR is a shallow WoW clone and is set in the Old Republic era, which I don't identify with and there is also SWG, whose gameplay I prefer and is set in the Rebellion era, which I identify more with, therefore I just play SWG and ignore SWTOR.

There were cheaper tricks. Like moving a server away without telling you in advance, knowing that ping time would increase. Compare with that, toying with the definition of sub to prevent you from getting free gifts is almost cute. Glad to hear that you got away while you still can.
