Can you get sub time or cartel coins without spending real money?
I'm a tightass. I don't like spending money on video games.

Can I pay for a subscription, or buy the premium currency (cartel coins) by earning money in game? For example by buying the subscription or premium currency off of other players? Like what WoW does.

1. You can get 100 cartel coins per month if you enable security key on your android device or by doing some achievements in game
2. If you was subscriber you can use referral link every 90 days it will give you 7 day free subscription but it will not unlock expansions
3. If you buy any amount of cartel coins you will be preferred it have less restricions than f2p and if you care mostly about story then to be honest its perfect still i think subbing for at least month is worth it. I wait for winter because there was a rumor that new expansion will be released in winter so i will sub for a month to unlock Onslaught and new expansion

Sadly theres no item in the game to buy with credits that gives Subscription time, you can get 100 free cartel coins per month by hooking up the authenticator on your account but thats about it for f2p/preferred

Thanks for the reply. Can I use those free cartel coins to bypass the f2p level cap restrictions?

Honestly to get the lv 75 cap and all expansions all you have to do is sub for only 1 month and you have that forever otherwise its a lv 60 cap, if you buy even the lowest cartel coin package the $5 one itll make you preferred which will give you a few more things like 12 character slots, but the cartel coins are only good for the in game store and theres nothing on there to up the level cap but subbing for just the 1 month will break it

Yeah but I'm a tightass. I can do a lot with that $5. So if I can't break the F2P restrictions by just playing the game, I won't play it

Oh wait you can do that in LOTRO? I thought you had to buy the expansions and stuff to do the new content?

Something I don't think I should say on here.

IF you are subscribed, you can give people your refer a friend link to earn Cartel Coins without paying any additional money.

You'll need at least 12 million credits to get started, but Refer a Friend Trading is basically an infinite well of credits and cartel coins.

You won't win any popularity contests for doing it, but heres a guide on how that all works.

All the expansions can be purchased with Lotro Points, and Lotro Points are awarded for completing deeds (which you end up doing anyway for other unlocks.)

You'd need to do a lot of grinding to buy any expansions though because they cost thousands of LP. For reference, raising a faction's reputation to max awards 50 LP total, many deeds are only worth 5 or 10 LP.

You can do all the deeds on multiple characters, so you'll never "run out" of free LP, but it can take most of a day to grind out 300-400 of them, even with a high level alt providing rep items.

I strongly recommend getting just 1 month's subscription and then cancelling it. It will unlock all expansions and you keep them after your sub expires. Its the most cost-efficient way to enjoy this game.

This is not that kind of game. If anything it is the reverse - you still see "pay to unlock" everywhere after you paid. What did you expect from EA?
Omuzder Sep 19, 2020 @ 11:58pm
Nah not really, there are ways of grinding to earn about 2000-4000 coins in game, but that is after significant play time. I would recommend subbing for a short time, getting the coins and perks, and then only paying when you know you can pour decent amounts of time into it. Or just play KOTOR 2 and pretend its an MMO.
