Download speed is a joke

Is it just me who is having such a bad download speed hanging around 700-1000kb ?
Normally I am downloading games with 14,5mb per second.

That's normal. The number is lower then the better speeds being reported here, but the game's download server is known to serve at a fraction of everyone's normal speed. Three hours is pretty much the minimum, but you may need a day or two at this rate.

It took me 6 hours or so the last time I installed. Always been very slow. Even when I'm not playing the game, I still keep it installed to avoid having to go through that again. Patches are luckily much smaller usually, so no more than 30 minutes or so.

I also have a 1gb fiber, I am looking at the zxhn f600 on my tabletop, I can hit my cap with my government's test server, 500+mbs from Akami Azure CDN (the numbers keep rising; file too small to hit the cap), and over 200mbs with speakeasy.net's NY server (same story).

Yet I also only get ~8mb/s from swtor's game install, too. Now who's network is capped?

OP didn't say he got 8mb/s. He got 700-1000kb.

Now, if everyone's getting around 6-8mb/s maximum, then that still doesn't change the fact there's something wrong with his net because the EA servers are clearly capable of more.

OP didn't say he got 8mb/s. He got 700-1000kb.

You were quoting Ice Bear in that post, not OP.

While EA's server itself is capable of 8mb/s, the network it use is obviously subpar and may have serious by-region outgoing bandwidth limit. But I guess we will never know.

And i thought i have slow download! In the launcher it says my speed is 3Mb/sec, if i could download the full game over steam it maybe would be 10Mb/sec ...

It's not people's internet connections and getting "better" internet won't help. The server appears to throttle download speed. Literally anybody with a decent connection experiences reduced download speeds with the swtor client.

It would be great if they'd let Steam handle the client as well as the launcher, but until then, this isn't a problem on your end, OP, it's an EA/Bioware thing.
