Twilek Unlock?
So, I found after downloading the game, that Twilek is locked, which is extremely frustrating. Based on what I've googled, it seems you get it automatically from Subscribing, leveling a character of that race to lv50, or through buying the race on the GTN.

I'm not about to subscribe to a game that I've never played before, so how hard is it to buy Twilek on say, the Star Forge server? I've seen mixed internet search results: one person said they got lucky and bought it for 200,000 credits, another person says that the race costs over 1,500,000 credits. As far as I can tell, don't free players have a limit of 1,000,000 credits with no bank space, making that impossible to buy?

Even if I put the time in and buy the race ingame, don't I also have to pay the appearance editor in Cartel Coins too? What kind of time investment am I looking at, because I don't really want to invest 200 hours of grinding in a new MMO, especially if I have to spend those 200 hours playing as a species as I don't want to. For a story based game, it's going to be kind of hard for me to enjoy it, when I can't even play the race I was imaging.

I've heard a lot of people say that this game is unbearable without a subscription. I'm starting to see why.

I'm on Star Forge the lowest I ever seen the unlock on the GTN for was like 5 mil and that was a buy and resell it for profit for me, once you have it unlocked its for all characters on the account it's in the character creation unlocked

If you subscribe you will get it but if you let the sub lapse you'll either have to get the unlock or lock the character or atleast thats the way it used to me

The Togruta I think is currently the highest cost to buy the Twilek will be more than the 1 mil credit cap most likely though

I'm not really sure about the legacy unlock though
You can buy Twilek for 600cartel coin (the closest one probably the 10$ option for 1000 coins). And you don't need to pay for appearance editor UNLESS you already made a character then you want to change it how it looks.

As for credit, you can make a friend or a guildmate who is a subs and let them buy you the item then you periodically pay them back. Example: Item cost 1.5m, so you pay them 2 time. 1st for the 1m and 2nd for the 500k.

Note; tbh been a while since I check races price but a 600cc item probably worth around 1-3m depending how rare it is.

Edit: You need only to finish chapter 3 (usually around level 50) as a Twilek character to gain access to it across all classes and if you only do the class mission without sub quest, it's probably going to take 20 ish hours.

Yeah, I'm not entirely sure how that stuff works either, haha. Unfortunately, all my searches turned up posts that were 2 to 10 years old. You'd think that considering how old and recently popular this game is, that there would be more threads on this topic. Which kind of worries me. I heard the player population is pretty decent right now, because of the Steam release, but I have a feeling the game might get dead again, and I'm not sure if I should invest thousands of hours into a game like that :/

$10 isn't a big deal, the problem is that I haven't even played the damn game yet. I can't remember the last MMO I played that had races locked. FF14 had the dragon people race locked, but I think that was only for people who didn't have the expansion they came with.

I don't think your second suggestion will ever happen. I've played a lot of MMO's over decades, and I almost never find a guild that's active, fun and aware that I exist within it. I feel like modern MMO's are less social than they were, back in the day, but maybe I'm just more anti-social than I was back then.

Either way, I doubt a stranger trusting me that much with their real money, even if I would be willing to pay them back extra (even if I decided I hated the game, I'd still pay off the debt first before quitting; not like I got anything better to do with this quarauntine).

I already downloaded the game though, so maybe I'll at least try it for an hour, see if I like it. I can already tell it's going to be no fun though, considering I've been slapped with the F2P wall before even making my (generic bland stupid looking non-Twilek) character. I totally wanted to play a sci-fi Star Wars game, so that I could play as a basic ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ average human amongst a world filled with crazy aliens. What of a ton of exciting fun!

I really didn't want to play a subscription based game right now, so I can't see myself getting to much mileage out of the game, with so many strict restrictions. Even if the story is good is as good as I've heard, I'm certainly not going to be able to enjoy it :(

My suggestion would be to try the game out for abit if you find you like it then sub for 1 month just from that you'll have all the quests, storyline and expansions up to level 75 for free forever, just thats tons of content, your gonna be gimped abit in the end game if you go back to preferred but trust me this games not dying any time soon, it's up to you the total size is about 40 some gigs, I just got the launcher going and just went and took a nap it was done when i woke up

I don't expect to be playing it in the long run, although I could be pleasantly surprised. However, with Blue Protocol, Genshin Impact, and a ton of other awesome things coming out very soon, I really don't want to drop money on a subscription for a game that I'm going to probably end up playing alone, as from what I've gathered, the game is almost entirely single player. Especially not a game that won't let me play the race I want from the start.

FF14 goes Free2Play next month, and Phantasy Star Online 2 is coming to Steam soon. Maybe I'll just skip this game, and wait for those.
My second suggestion is actually a real life experience for me when I first started. For an endgame raider and usually officer within large guild, 1-5mil is nothing to them. And as long you promised them that you will pay back (better with interest) someone will probably help you out.

But don't just ask a minute after you join the guild tho lol.

The better suggestion is to just subs or buy through cartel market, getting 1 million as a new player can be harder than getting to chapter 3 as a subs. I agree that playing as a f2p is unbearable but after a sub, its become much better.

My biggest thing I'm waiting for right now and it's not an MMO is Realms Beyond: Ashes of the Fallen but I'm doubting its even gonna see a 2020 release

Yeah, I figured as much, but as I said, if I wait too long, it really just destroys the experience. Because if I start playing the game, my thoughts won't be "What happens next in the story? What cool powers will I unlock?". It's going to be "Where the hell do I go next, so I can get more money to finally play the race I want?" And obviously, if I have to save EVERY credit I make towards unlocking the stupid Twilek, I'm not going to be able to afford better gear, which will also ruin the game for me.

I sort of agree and sort of don't agree there; it's really hard to argue with your last sentence.

I've been playing online games for almost 2 decades now, so when someone normally rambles on about how "online games aren't fair about how they treat free players", I don't pay much attention. That's because you can't think of games like this as "Free2Play", you have to think of them as "Subscription based games, with a limited free trial". So I get that. If the Free Players had access to EVERYTHING the subscribed players had, they wouldn't feel justified in spending their money.

But locking the races? That's so damn dumb. What's the first thing you think of, when you think Star Wars? Jedi, space ships, wookies, and other crazy alien races. None of which I can play. My whole problem with the Sci-Fi genre in general, is that it ALWAYS puts humans on this high pedestal, which I always found dumb, considering the vastness of the universe. Humans wrote the books that these realities take place in, we don't need to keep patting outselves on the back INSIDE the books too xD

I don't know. I want to play the game, but my heart just keeps telling me I'm going to be depressed the entire time.

At first, I thought you meant Ashes of Creation, which I'm also waiting for, but pretty sure that's next year, if it even comes out properly at all (their making a lot of bold promises, which honestly just sounds like false advertisement, given how similar games have previously released).

Realms Beyond looks alright. Has a Pathfinder: Kingmaker feel (another game I need to grab), although Realms Beyond looks single player, I'm mostly hyped for online stuff atm. I've got a ton of single player stuff to keep me busy (although I'm feeling too lazy to touch them).

Viera is going to be behind a F2P "Wall", so you should skip FFXIV too. Just saving you some time.

Except that I already have a character made from last year, I don't care about the Viera, and I'd only be playing, because a friend wants to. The Viera were always the stupidest race in Final Fantasy, anyway.

No, it's still a rarity for me too. It's difficult to get anyone to invest time into anything. I actually hated FF14, mostly due to the LONG dredge through the base game (I wanted to the play the Advanced Classes, but they were locked into the Expansion, for some dumbass reason). 90% of the time I end up playing junk alone, usually because I'm the only one who can tolerate playing the same game for more than a week.

My friend likes FF14 though, and she already stated that she's going to start paying for it again soon, so if I can play it for free, might as well give it another chance.

I'm going to try playing SWTOR, but as a different class than I wanted. Figure, if I still enjoy the game, I can farm whatever I need to buy the Twilek unlock on this character, then start over as the actual class I want to play, that way I still get experience I wanted... albeit probably hundreds of hours later, if I can withstand the game that long.
Platinumb Jul 30, 2020 @ 11:33am
If simply being a blue skinned person with tentacles instead of hair makes you unable to enjoy a game and instead withstand it... Then i am severely worried about you.

I understand you want to play Twiliek, i get it - i wanted to play sith pureblood.

But man, there is nearly no difference in the actual gameplay and i hope you're able to enjoy and appreciate a different race. It's not like you're locked out of classes or anything and every class has vastly different stories too.

Just comes across like somebody goes into a coffee shop and complains about the colour of the cup...

200k for a race, and what year was it - that is cheap
