While many people complain about the game being easy (and to be fair it is) you'll find the damage on you adds up really quickly without one.
Also leveling a companion helps a lot for later activities, for example one of my favorite things to do endgame when gearing characters is to stealth run Flashpoints like Red Reaper. This becomes most viable when you have a high level healing companion to help you and your partner out.
Also leveling influence with your companion gives you conquest points, so you want to do this anyway. Conquest points give you a bonus when you hit 50k in a week AND help any guild you belong to gain weekly rewards as well.
At any rate the short version is "I don't think so", the long version is if your going to play SWTOR long term your going to have to sort of get used to the idea of a companion.
If the game is too easy make sure to do your heroic missions, doing Heroic (2) or Heroic (4) missions with just you and your companions can be tricky depending on the mission.
