Cannot join my friends game online

I can play the game fine, I can join random groups online, But i cannot join my friends games, nor can they join mine, I have been through all the tech support threads (few through they may be), any help would be appreciated, if i don't get any i guess i'll be applying for a refund

* they have a 2 to 3 player game going no problems, two are on steam one is on epic. I have my settings open to public, tried crossplay enabled and disabled, restarted the game and my computer multiple times, verified the game files, updated all drivers, and tried multiple invite styles

get your mate to invite you via steam, thats the only way we managed to get it to work, if i just click join on my mates game we can play for a few mins then crash, try the steam invite method and let me know if that works for you

that was how we initially tried it, i invited him, then he invited me we tried the join game option, we started playing around with the "Shift" nonsense after that failed.
