CUSTOM MUSIC + Q&A
BPM's most requested feature is finally here: Custom Music.

You are now able to add music that you have created into BPM, and will be able to shoot, dodge and dash to the beat of your own soundtrack.

Here is a tutorial video that will show you how to get your music set up to work in BPM:

Q&A

Q: why doesn’t the game detect the beat in my tracks?

A: the file name must contain the songs tempo in it. Without adding the tempo/bpm, BPM doesn’t know what the tempo of your song is.
Example: “my song 134bpm”

Q: I’ve set the correct tempo but my song keeps going out of time

A: the song you have chosen has either been given the wrong tempo, or the song wasn’t recorded to a metronome, which means the tempo isn’t consistent.

Q: I’ve added music files but nothing plays.

A: there’s a few possible reasons for this. Firstly, if your using Linux, custom music will not work. Secondly, make sure the music files are in the correct folders. Thirdly, make sure your music file is a .wav file.

Is there a way to get the music to start once you enter the level and not during the loading screen like for the normal songs for consistency?

It restarts when you pause

It doesn't seem to detect the beat in some of my tracks, any idea how to help?

I had the same problem, what fixed it was making sure that the bpm number in the song name was in one word and that it was written at the end of the name.
Example "Disco Descent - Danny Baranowsky - Necrodancer OST 115bpm"

You can play around with doubling or halving the Number you enter for tempo.

I've been playing around with the custom music and been having a blast with it. (Never thought I'd be fighting my way through dungeons to Funky Town). I've run into this thing that occurs with some songs however where shooting is done on the down beat. I can learn to adapt to that by recognizing the song, but it's pretty jarring and throws off my flow for the run.

I know I can turn on Rhythm-assist, but I want to play without it. Especially because some of the songs where it does that are my favorite and really fit the game well. Does anyone know why that happens and if there's possibly something that I can do in audacity to adjust that? The tempo itself is fine.

The song is on beat, but shooting is on the downbeat. For example the beat is "1 and 2 and 3 and 4." In order to shoot I'll have to click on the AND rather than the 1 otherwise it counts as a missed beat and it won't fire (as well as reset my multiplier).

I hope that makes sense.

Is there a list somewhere of what songs from the original soundtrack are on each floor? I'm trying to add the songs from the soundtrack into my custom music rotation

You can try checking out the BPM Soundtrack DLC. I think even if you don't buy it, it at least shows you a list of the songs. You can probably also doublecheck on youtube.

does the bpm have to be a whole number or will it recognize 84.5BPM as a title
Dragonlord Freya Jan 3, 2023 @ 6:05am
It does have to be a whole number, though some of us have thought about experimenting with setting it to 171 for example and letting it auto-cut the beat in half. That hasn't been tested yet so ymmv.

My advice is to use audacity and round the BPM up to 85, that's what I typcically do

this actually works. had a song with 87.5 bpm and i set it to 175 and the game recognized it right.

That's strange. It didn't seem to work for me. I tried using a 72.5 bpm song as `SONG NAME 145bpm.wav`, but there were just no beats when it played (So i couldn't attack or dash).
I slowed it down to 60 bpm as 120bpm.wav, which strangely didn't work either.
Finally, i sped it up to 80bpm, which worked at the end.

On that note, is there any hope for variable bpm support? As in, a song starts out at 80 bpm, then switches to 90 somewhere through?
Maybe custom soundtracks could handle this by having the user create an ini - or another type of config file - with the same name as the audio file, containing the bpm rates inside.

While it is possible to slow down or speed up parts of the song to a consistent bpm, to me it feels like it should be a last-ditch workaround, and not really a solution, as it somewhat ruins the music.
