Custom music - A thread
Vanilla music is fire. But after 24hours of playing, we need something new. Here is the setup I use to play with custom tracks.

I'm looking into modding the game, but have to learn that. I'll update the thread once I make progress.

TO NOTE :
- This is not a discussion about music tastes.
- I run this setup on W10, but it should work on others OS. Share alternatives if it doesn't !

Concerning my current setup, here's what I do:

1 > Vanilla game's actual bpm is precisely 88 on all tracks ( levels ).
2 > I choose music I like on Youtube, preferably with similar beat (e.g. JT Warzone rap ).
3 > I download the mp3 file with ytmp3 [ytmp3.cc]
4 > The free software Mix Meister [mixmeister-bpm-analyzer.en.softonic.com] runs a quick and reliable BPM analysis on mp3 files.
5 > Quick maths : 88/ ( BPM of your music ) = mutiplication factor
6 > Use Audacity's " change speed [manual.audacityteam.org] " feature. Multiply by factor computed above.
7 > Adjust the pitch [www.businessinsider.com] if BPM update was too strong.
8 > Export to dedicated folder. This file should have the right BPM !
9 > Run game, set music to 0, play your mp3 and match to the game tempo. ( Each level ~ 3-5"? )
10 > Profit !

I know this is kinda tideous, but I spent 20 minutes doing it mechanically, and it goes fast.
This is for now the best setup i have been able to think of, feel free to post ideas !

Some music natively have 88 BPM, but they are very rare.
87 or 89 BPM wont't cut it for more than a room ...

he he. I do something very similar. Just putting all my music in Mixmeister and then choosing the 88 BPM tracks to go on my playlist. At the beginning you have to play/pause until you get it exactly with the game but when you get it right it's so much fun to wreck havoc in hell to some Drum 'n' Bass (most 88 BPM tracks are this genre) ;)

I wonder if someone could do a macro or whatever just for audacity. That would solve the whole thing more or less without having to mod the game. Imagine being able to fill a folder with music from youtube, then have something where you can select that folder, add a csv file with all the individual bpms for songs (if you can't have audacity detect it automatically), and then have audacity change bpms as long as the multiplication factor is within a given range (and scaling pitch if above a threshold). Then it stitches songs together by beat so you don't have to queue individually (detect drums?). And you get an output file with an hour of music that you have to match one time to the game (add metronome section so you don't lose the beginning song?). It's a lot but also imo easier than putting ♥♥♥♥ in the actual game.

Ooh actually if you're already detecting drum beats, should probably run a check to see that it all lines up for every song. Otherwise might source YT videos with intentional cuts where everything might get misaligned. Could just find the problematic spots and make a cut to stitch the beat (or even flag the file if you really want to be anal about it and source elsewhere). If beat is stitched the cut should sound alright, not more than one per song probably.
