Blue Shimmer 'Sliding'

Is there something I'm doing that's causing a blue shimmer effect at my feet and constantly sliding (think ice level in any game with an ice level)? I thought it might have been a glitch but the visual effects make me think it's deliberate? I have no idea how it's happening - and it's happened several times.

It's awful, and I will certainly die from it. Every time. I would love to avoid this.

might be a level modifier. sometimes you get ice levels, which suck. jumping should mitigate the problem.
