Strafe Jumping and You, an advanced guide
Did you know you can strafe jump in BPM like your favorite Quake man or lady?

Of course you didn't, most of you can't even get to the first boss and you're probably looking at me confused like "what's a jumpy strafe?"

Well time to put on your big boy or girl pants and strap in!

By the way, if you already know how to strafe jump, this guides pretty much worthless to you.

What is a strafe jump?

So when you're playing a good shooter, you usually can gain momentum by strafing (Where's this going?!?) in a diagonal direction forward. Eg. holding forward+left or holding forward+right. When you jump while strafing you will keep your momentum. Hence a strafe jump. The ground WILL stop/reset your momentum so well timed jumps are important. But to actually get that speed you want, you're going to want to alternate your left and right between each jump. And finally, we can add even more speed by moving our mouse horizontally in the direction we are strafing. Now what does this all look like in motion?

How to do it?
This is just the order, you may need to read over it a few times.

1) Jump while holding W+A and turn your camera to the left.
2) immediately reverse your camera to the right while holding W+D and do a double jump.
3) Jump as soon as you hit the floor to keep your momentum.
4) Repeat it all until your fingers bleed.

If you would like to see a video of it performed in Quake, watch this video guide by QCP.

The concept is identical to Quake, I mean it is where it's from.

Hot tips

- If you lose momentum in the air you might be over swinging your camera back and forth.
- It's easier tp do a single strafe jump and just switch directions every time you land rather than double jumping it. Start small.
-If you have the infinite jump power up you can keep your momentum by repeatedly double jumping and it will keep accelerating you to either infinity or whatever comes first. It's day one, sue me.
-The timing of bunny hopping seems to be easier with more in the speed stat. Hldyr for this reason is the easiest to do it from the get go.

It's a pretty simple concept that a lot of people struggle with so don't fret if you don't get it consistently, just keep trying and you'll be the hero of LAN parties soon enough

Bump because I see people asking about it.

But you can't bhop in this game, right? So you won't carry the momentum between jumps?

It's incredibly tight, maybe a few frames at most. Hell I can't even get it consistent, but it is possible. Doing a ghetto circle jump when you land helps some.

Hm, I never got it. But I'll try more.
I'm kinda sad everything's way less responsive than in the original arena shooters. Like imagine if you could turn faster.

Yeah, it feels kind of like a shell of the real thing. But honestly I wasn't expecting any sort of advanced movement besides the dash so it makes me happy some ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ way is in. Oh yeah, try practicing it in one of those "Bat hallway" rooms. The different elevation makes the timing from tight to borderline impossible sometimes

New knowledge! It seems that Bhopping timing and the momentum you lose touching the ground is based off your speed stat. Needs more testing but I'm pretty sure I'm onto something

Protip: if you're trying to give useful advice, don't make the first three sentences of your post condescending drivel.

Either make a useless "git gud" post or give useful advice.

Maybe if you actually could comprehend strafe jumps you wouldn't take it out on me, but it's ok, it's hard buddy

you should put this in the guides section as well

You can also ramp jump like in Quake 2. The higher velocity when you time your jump on top of a ramp, the more height you'll jump. I've also noticed secrets in unreachable areas, could use this to reach them.
