It's really bad that I simultaneously feel like the rooms are very claustrophobic AND the range of weapons can't hit things halfway across the small rooms.
People really need to play the game more before they criticize it's gameplay.
-Remove actions needing to be on beat to come out. This one is more personal. But I find myself constantly shooting on every beat hoping that I am in range and wont miss out because I'm off beat. Instead, have being on beat be not just a score multiplier. But give you bonuses to range, damage, and luck (in that order) based on multiplier.
-Give feedback for what your current range is. Having a variable range limit like Binding of Issac work better because you can literally see your projectile range when as it hits the floor. Give the bullets a smoke or tracker trail when fired on the main beat. Have the crosshair invisible until anything shootable is in them, including walls.
-Minimize damage when out of range. Like 0.2x damage and no flinching. This one might be the best balance in the argument of "gun should have inf range". This way they do something instead of nothing.
-Higher melee ratio. Fights seems to have a higher priority, number wise, and tanky ranged foes vs the threat of melee based foes. This one might be more based on me just being ass at not getting further than the 2nd zone So perhaps the ratio changes with zone variety.
-Lower the number of stats. This would give a better chance to upgrade Range.
Precision, feels like it does nothing (Might be based on having different guns. I never find the blacksmith when I have coin).
Luck, may "feel" better consistency wise with current stage and consecutive beats.
Ability, having 3 prerequisites warped around one thing (chest room/spawn, key drop to unlock, chest dropping a skill) just for the skill to be weak because you haven't ran into enough Ability shrines isn't groovy.
Then again, I have a tendency to actually MOVE in FPS games.
Doom Eternal does encourage you to get close to melee enemies better by rewarding you with ammo and recovery from Chainsaw/Glory kills, but it's really no problem here.
Upgrade your range, get a different weapon, or get closer. It's that simple.
