What the game does not have, is gambling mechanics. Which is when putting money into the game can result in a random reward, usual examples being: monetized loot boxes, monetized card booster packs or monetized gacha.
The reward system isn't entirely random because you earn currency regularly and can buy the same things from the loot boxes. And you can't buy lootboxes.
If any one of those elements were removed, they'd have something to complain about. But it's pretty fair as is.
thats like saying a game has pay to win mechanics because you pay with ingame gold to become stronger, its not what it means to 99.9% of people
There is a big difference between being able to pay for the boxes or not, which is a good point to make. Problematic games will have content locked behind loot boxes, and the only way to get it is by purchasing those loot boxes with real money (or investing a lot of time to earn them at a much lower rate).
At this time there doesn't seem to be a way to purchase additional boxes with real money, and there's probably not a lot of incentive to change that (Thank you EU!). More importantly it also appears that nothing specifically unlocked through war chests.
So they act as just a little bonus, and not a requirement to get certain content (skins, backgrounds, etc).
It does make it easy for people to misrepresent them though, since they're pretty well known for being associated with problematic monetization schemes. And most people don't much care for nuance.
again its a copout because everybody KNOWS what a lootbox is, and a battlepass, and a battleroyale, and a moba, the only reason the reviewers are using those words are to slander and lie about the game while trying to act like they are innocent.
again its like saying a game is pay to win because you can spend the gold you earn ingame to become better, thats not what it means, never has been what it mean.
its clickbait nonsense.
:P Yeah, I thought there was the potential for something like that, but I didn't want to start up the game to verify.
Loot boxes confirmed!
I suppose technically its a loot box, but I thought loot boxes are identified as being bought with real money. Warchests can't be bought with real money (as of now anyway). Some Charms and Skins are specifically bought in the Microsoft store. However they are bought directly. And I think I've won some in warchests, don't quote me on that.
