The W44 nuclear depth charge entered service in 1961, but was never used beyond one or two tests before the Limited Nuclear Test Ban Treaty banning underwater nuclear tests went into effect. A total of 575 weapons were produced. The W44 weighed 77 kg (170 lb) with a diameter of 35 cm (13.75 in) and length of 64 cm (25.3 in). Following payload separation, the unguided W44 sank quickly to a predetermined depth where the 10-kiloton warhead detonated. The nuclear-armed ASROC was never used in combat. W44-armed ASROC missiles were retired by 1989, when all types of nuclear depth bombs were removed from deployment.

The biggest boom possible right now is an exploding ammo ship.

If you have a depth charge it can armed as such.

You might want to move this over to the suggestions sub-forum. I could be confusing this game with another, but I thought that the developers were keeping this a strictly conventional engagement.

sounds like it's going to be a modding request then, thanks. Wonder why they want it strictly conventional.

It also has me thinking "but nuclearized weapons, like depth charges, are conventional weapons though, they were designed to be used conventionally."

I just thought the devs would be a little more realistic to the actual designs/roles and specifications of naval ships and their weapons. Oh well, I would have really loved to have found the naval sim i've been looking for (so close!).

Only one test was made, but if combat ever broke out between the fascist soviets and US, these would be common use

A nuke is a nuke. Use one and the gloves come off quickly.

we're about to find out IRL :)

My theory is that there will be a conventional use of them, and buildup of yield overtime long before any limited or full icbm exchange happens. The conventional use of nukes makes sense when you consider the yields and design of the weapon for the role it's being used for. War is always a slog of 'escalations', and Russia historically does them unprovoked anyway.

I'd just like to sim what these destroyers and launchers were designed for, that's the point of this game, i think? We made over 500 of these things and had over 200 warships (many were gearing's) equipped for them lol

That's interesting ,thanks. I'm looking less for 'big booms' and more for specifications of ships and weapons being put into the game as they were intended to be used.

I'm just telling you the current game limits. We both want a nuke but right now "ammoship_explosion_1" is all we got to work with.

lol, yeah.

So what's the preferred way to add/edit explosion assets and properties?

At the end of the weapon file are lines of code for the different destructions scenarios (getting shot down, running into the ground, hitting a target/ship, etc.

You just change those explosions to the bigger bada-boom, and also increase the Power= stat and ... you're done.

If it is as I learned in DW:RA Mod it shoots and drops as a normal asroc but when it hits the water it spirals down to a preset deep and detonates. A bit more work than just changing the warhead value.

Appreciate both of you for the useful info.

Probably won't be able to change the yield and depth from the sound of it, that'll all be static unless there's a way to make that more dynamic. I can live with that. Hope the devs add that though.
