Custom Mission to Learn
I built a custom mission with the focus being to learn. Single ship groups, one for blue and one for red.
Im having a hard time getting the red faction to engage. They will defend themselves, but wont directly engage Blue vessel. Ive tried a wide range of ships and what nots and red always starts the mission weapons free.

Is there something I am missing??

I haven't made anything complicated in the editor yet but I did notice that the debug panel (F10) can be brought up anytime and it has a lot of options in there to enable/disable AI and even enable playing as either side. the general tab gives alot of info about the current selected unit. Perhaps that might help you figure out what is wrong.

You must make sure the unit is group placed and on free fire command. If not sometime it jumps back to weapons tight.

There are a few other things to consider. One is the range of the weapons on the ship you are going up against. A ship like a Kirov has SS-N-19 (Shipwreck) missiles that have a massive range of around 378 nautical miles. A ship like a Grisha is going to have SS-N-4 (Gecko) missiles with a range of about 8.1 nautical miles.

Another thing is the radar for the ships. You can enable the radar for the vessel in the mission editor to make sure that they start the mission with their radars on. This will help them locate targets faster. Check the engagement range as well. If you are starting a game with the units very far away, you can place aircraft with their radars on at a high altitude to help. Look for the P-42RLDN

Another thing you might rarely encounter is minimum range. If they are too close they probably aren't firing missile at minimum range, but usually if they're that close they'll shoot with their deck guns.
