Sea Power

Sea Power

Crimson Tide (Soviet Side) Mission
I have gotten almost right up to hugging the literal sand on the coast of the United States and I STILL cannot fire my missiles, there's no keybinds to do it, and there is no mission objective area to reach. Can someone please help?

That close to the coastline with a limiting restriction of x100 compression at best and from my experience x30 compression is a max majority of the time, how long did that actually take in literal real time? ...which means this mission if it is even possible takes hours if not days to complete in REAL time
The uboat game which covers the operational theatre of mainly the Atlantic, with some Barents sea and Mediterranean sea has a time compression feature of something like 50,000 not a totally impracticable 100, which is reduced to times 30 the majority of the time anyway!..this is useless, unless a player if fine with doing literally nothing of half a day or more in realtime!

I totally echo thi, i came onto ask what experience players have had with this mission, because for my money, literally no work or development has been placed on it...it simply does not work,, and the waiting times are totally ridiculous anyway..

This needs addressing and then some, it should be priority given the unplayable state it's in. right now it's ridiculous.

I just sailed to Haiti and then back up to the Virginia coast, avoiding any (Enemies?..) in the Ocean, but when I got to the US coast nothing happened and I couldn't continue. Either I have to literally park on the beach or there is a hidden "Launching Area" the game will not tell you about.

It was mind numbingly boring sitting for hours at 100x time compression doing absolutely nothing except occasionally waiting for it to speed back up from 30x because an airplane was in the same hemisphere as you.

You don't have to do anything special for the mission. When you start you will be given a default waypoint to reach. If you use the pencil tool on the map you can mark that location and then you can set your own route so that you won't lose the destination. Your mission is simply to reach that location and then you can exit and it will say victory. There is no message pop-up and you can't launch any ballistic missiles yet.

A lot of submarine missions are going to be pretty boring because there really isn't a lot to do if you're trying to be stealthy. You can slide under Bermuda and avoid most of the ASW patrols for that mission while travelling very deep and all ahead flank and never get caught.

Right and the "point of this is?,,, So we literally just stare at a screen doing virtually nothing for what 4 hours ? 6 hours? longer maybe, and then you are saying the mission is over not even graphically representing to weapons launching?, you realize how absolutely paint watchingly mundane and pointless and mind nummingly boring this is?...If it doesn't work then don't pretend it does, that's my point.

TBH as soon as i noticed there was no periscope i had a very good idea that this whole submarime area of the game was persona non gratis.

Most of the included scenarios are *incredibly* light on triggers. Probably 90% of them are effectively just 'quick action.' The scenario in question, for instance, has a single trigger:
[Trigger1] Name=Trigger Name 1 Action_Taskforce2_Message=Taskforce2TriggerName1Message Action_Victory=Taskforce2 Condition_Condition1_Description=Soviet Sub Reaches Launch Point Condition_Condition1_Type=UnitsInTheArea Condition_Condition1_Triggers=Trigger1 Condition_Condition1_PositionNM=-2448.847,0,-1192.392 Condition_Condition1_AreaRadiusNM=8 Condition_Condition1_AreaLabel=Trigger1Condition_Condition1AreaLabel Condition_Condition1_AreaDisplaySide=None Condition_Condition1_Taskforce=Taskforce2 Condition_Condition1_Units=Taskforce2Submarine1 Condition_Condition1_MinimumUnits=1 Condition_Condition1_UnitType=Submarine ConditionsCompleted=Condition1
What is obnoxious about this is AreaDisplaySide=None so the player has no idea which 8nmi postage stamp of the Atlantic ocean they are supposed to be in. Copy this mission from the original folder to the user folder and modify AreaDisplaySide=red. That should display where you're supposed to go and make things a whole lot easier.

LOOOOL
I understand that is EA, but the quality of the missions shouldn't be THAT low

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't slightly taken aback by the present state of things, which is probably my own fault as I've had my eye on this project for quite some time now and just figured that it was going to be closer to completion at "EA launch" than it actually ended up being. It's not a win or lose because, let's be honest, I'd have supported them either way. It's just a bit surprising, is all.

The mission editor and so forth, as they stand today are probably not long for this world... It's basically a vertical slice, minimum viable product, proof of concept... whatever you want to call it but it is my understanding that a lot of attention has shifted toward the mission editor and ai side of things.

Outside of a few scenarios, they probably would have been better off just having an instant action button instead. People see the titles of scenarios "OOOOH CRIMSON TIDE" and go in with at least some expectations and in the end it's basically just instant action anyways.

The no visible launch area is quite absurd and has to be an oversight which they really should fix in some hotfix patch since it could be fixed in 5 seconds or so.

I just attempted this mission but gave up because it was taking too long to reach the destination. Most of the time 30X was max compression it would allow, it needs way faster compression than that.

I'm having the same issue.

Well you just saved me hours, I was going to try this as the Soviets but if you can't even launch missiles or get a cut scene of your success than this mission is a huge waste of time.

I don't mind realistic sub missions but you need to be rewarded for your time spent.
