Is it possible to set up CAP/BARCAP patrols for aircraft?
I know this is not as “hardcore” as CMO and that’s fine with me but it’s difficult to imagine a carrier battle group without a fighter CAP. I have not seen this in any gameplay I’ve watched. Can it be set up in the game? Deploying a CBG without it seems like pure fantasy to me.

CMO works at a higher level of command. Here, you are the one in charge of controlling the CAP, so launch the planes and set the waypoints and there is your CAP.

I guess, but would like to maybe see options that provide a degree of automation. Maybe something like the sonar buoy pattern key combo. Or the ability to add patrol zones in the formation editor.

yea launching 30 sonobuoys gets pretty annoying

In the formation manager, you can select a role for certain units - CAP is one of them, unless it has to be set from the mission planner as a toggle. The AH1 mission has f14s set to the CAP role in the formation manager for example. Now whether or not it’s coded yet to do anything is another question.

This^ The Commander does not tell every fighter when to turn nor every helicopter where to drop the buoy. They are assigned a patrol zone and handle the small stuff on their own. It's my fault if I forget to deploy them. It's their fault if they don't do their mission.

Even a simple "Draw a box" area would work. Automation makes sense. The commander is not every pilot and every gunner.

Yup

You can drop a 3x3 Sonobuoy pattern with CTRL + RMB. Sonobuoy deployment is still annoying and makes ASW ops less fun. I hope we see soon a solution like in Fleet Command: Draw a search box and AI deploys sbs.

Dragable Rally Points and Air Stations like in Fleet Command would be also great.

But he, the TFC, will order where he wants them to patrol. We should be able to click zones in the formation editor and instruct the CAG to set patrols in those zones. I wanted to have my destoryers helo patrol an arc in front of the formation as the formation moved but all I could do was set waypoints. Do I have to set every dipping zonar waypoint and how do I make them stop and drop? If I do send him to a waypoint how big an area does he patrol?

An addition to patrol areas, game also needs a waypoint editor like speed, height / depth, EMCON and so on.

This game is the same level as CMO. Just CMO has been fully flushed out because it's been around in some form for a decade.

Yeah, but even its original CMNAO form, mission automation was a big part of it. Most of the enhancements to CMNAO, all the way up to CMO today, has been detail around weapon systems and enhancements, larger operations management, and multi-domain strikes.

No.
No it is not.
And it's not even close.
It's pretty, definitely pretty. But if you're trying to compare the fidelity of the two ... that's a joke. Maybe someday, I hope someday. But they have... a literal metric f-tonne of work to even begin to make comparisons.
Under 10 children's league versus professional all-pro team. It really is night and day.

Read what I replied to. I made no mention of fidelity, realism, depth of simulation, or anything of the sort. Command level (i.e. you should be setting a CAP position, not manually flying them to it and controlling them the whole time).

This game could be as complex like you said, but I am in no way saying it is right now.
