There's already way too many complaints about lowered FPS during heavy engagements. This would likely make some of the lower end computers come to a crawl, either because of the higher memory requirement and/or CPU usage.
Many players will lack geo specific knowledge of any area except for local sailors that have sailed it or history buffs.
Take Suez Canal for example. A very publicly known and strategic waterway. It is not done in great detail, land wise or even depth wise. But, it's acceptable currently because game is EA still.
Perhaps a post release discussion but for now, I would urge the continued refinement of the basic game mechanics over terrain. For now, people with geo specific knowledge of an area will likely have time use some artistic liberties in designing their scenarios. This game has huge potential and they're only just opening the door for us. Patience, it may come.
