Sea Power

Multiplayer; Co-op?
Would co-opp campaign be possible for us fans.

Hey Everyone. We have addressed our reasoning in other threads here, but I will re-post them here. While we know there is interest in it, Triassic Games will NOT be working on MP functionality at this time, and is extremely unlikely to in the future. There are a multitude of factors that would overcomplicate and strain the team's workload even further than it already is. While we have thought and discussed some parts of MP, overall, it is simply beyond the scope of the game's current design. Some of our thoughts on specific matters can be found below.

AI vs. Player combat
Triassic Games is aware of the fact that player combat would likely be more exciting than our current AI. However, we do have plans to work on it (AI changes) once the overall core gameplay functionality is stabilized further (Things like the damage system, aircraft behavior and bugs with it, and performance for example). We are consulting with others on some AI design and improvements as we can to start setting the stage for a more realistic and challenging AI engagements.

Synchronization of In-Game Systems and Units
With our recent (as of 3/12/25) push for saving and loading into public testing, it came at quite a cost and revealed much about some of the complexities involved with saving and loading such systems. Making that work with MP would further tax our internal infrastructure and would basically require a new game or a massive amount of heavily focused time (meaning loss of progress elsewhere for a large period of time) we simply cannot do with our current capabilities.

Balancing and Cheating
This is probably one of the bigger topics we find ourselves discussing repeatedly internally. It's a delicate matter given we wish to remain historically accurate, but also have the game be enjoyable. This sort of situation can go both ways, but the Triassic Team strives for historical accuracy on both display and functionality of such systems/units. In a MP environment, balancing such systems would be extremely difficult for a new team like ourselves.

There is also the risk of cheaters. Designing systems to even attempt to mitigate it, while considering all of the points above, is yet another factor that encourages us to remain steady on our choice to be a single player experience exclusively.

Mods and Steam Workshop
Given how adjustable SP is, making such systems and modifications work together seamlessly in a MP environment would also be another massive hurdle. This further adds to the cheating point. For example, anyone can go into a ships files, adjust 1 value (like damage control parties), and increase it by 10x and become invincible. We want to keep SP that way because we love the idea of letting everyone play the game their way.

Thank you again for your support, wishes, feedback, and bug reports thus far on SP. We hope in the future that our future improvements will push Sea Power to be one of the latest and greatest naval games out there!

Hanging on the level of "interest of the customers", which means could be added, could be a DLC, could never happen. They gave one of the diplomatic answers I hate and expect from politicians not answering the question.

Myself I feel they are leaving a big piece of the game behind if there is no multiplayer. Think what Supreme Commander would have been if it didn't have MP, not the classic RTS that it is today.
Just think of splitting the units between you and a friend where one controls subs and the other the aircraft and carrier in a shared command.
OR playing where you control the Americans units and they control the British aliied up against the AI or player opponents.

It all lives up to the game engine and how it's going to sync the data between the players but for me the game is a no go solo unless it's under $40 or they state how MP will be implemented.
It will wait on my wishlist till further details as I feel the mod's community will be the saving grace for the game past what I saw on youtube. Who makes what weapons/unit/skin pack and scenarios.

Ok if you want an honest answer: From a business point of view adding multiplayer makes zero sense. Absolutely no sense at all. Not for such a type of a game.

I've read somewhere that for one war game they added multiplayer because the community demanded it hardly and after all the effort they put in only 4% of the player base used it and the multiplayer part died out quickly after that.

Don't get me wrong: Personally I love multiplayer titles and there is a chance we add it later in some form but it's not really a priority right now as we are a very small team and have tons of other things on the list right now. :)

+1. For all the requests for MP in RTS games, only a tiny fraction of the playerbase actually plays it. Even Eugen said that Wargame Red Dragon, the primary example of Cold WAR RTS games, only has 20% of players even touch the MP. The vast majority of the player base only plays the SP. I'd hate to see what the precentage is for an SP focused game like Sea Power.

* I would love to see Multiplayer added to this game! It is not an advertised feature and Microprose games have always avoided adding multiplayer. BUT, I see Modern Naval Warfare is to be released soon! And it will have Multiplayer! I may just save my money and wait for Modern Naval Warfare instead. How about you??

Well save your money then because Sea Power won't get multiplayer anytime soon (within a year).

And MNW will be a great game, without doubt, but you control a single submarine there which is by factors less trouble than having entire fleets worldwide, especially when it comes to multiplayer.

Although I started out my computer wargaming back in the early '90s with the grandaddy of them all, Air Warrior, and played it so much they even named Doom Field in AWII after me, the addition of mp to this game has no additional attraction, FOR ME.

I also want to say that coming into these forums barking out veiled threats of not buying the game because of mp not being included in it, at least out of the gates, is pretty juvenile, since everyone knows you will get it anyway.

No, because a coherent singleplayer is infinitely more entertaining, dynamic and replayable than any attempts at cramming MP into this.
Anyone who grew up in the 90's or early 2000's appreciates dynamic campaigns and good AI. Single player campaigns rule. Multiplayer sucks!. Its also a well know fact that the single player community is large in most games than the online group.

Mp games are a dime a dozen and those that are online only do not have a long shelf life, especially those that rely on players and have no AI or SP content.

Thats an interesting answer, I wouldve thought from a business perspective it wouldve made perfect sense. Not many in this genre allow for coop and such things and according to reports multiplayer can increase a games shelf life, increase adoption equalling additional funding and improve customer engagement.

With the attention to detail you and the team have put into the systems and models, Id want to enjoy them with others, but appreciate the honesty.

I kind of agree that it would be great to have that option in. And as I said we don't rule it out (personally I love multiplayer games). But for now there is so much other stuff to do... Multiplayer is something which might come at some later point. But that's not for certain.

Maybe I'm the exception to the rule. A single player game I will play through once. A co-op or multiplayer game will hold my interest for years. Just something about enjoying a game with mates. I really hope co-op makes its way to Sea Power.

Not sure. That might be true for story driven games. But for sandbox like games it's a bit different IMO.

Nevertheless everyone has different interests of course. But still we have limited resources and need to finish the Single Player part first.

Single player forget MP for a long time to much time wasted for stuff all
Game never said was a MP game from Day one
