Sea Power

Sea Power

Tom Clancy (RIP) would've loved this game
Omg this game.. the detail.. the superb camera controls.. the workshop scenarios.. the cool developer mode with visualisation of the sonar (clearly made by the Cold Waters Dot Mod guy).. the flight deck + carrier ops.. so many nice little touches and that's just in the Encyclopedia mode. Well I had to buy it, simply to support the devs which in this case they fully deserve it and of course to support future work + DLC (no in-flight air-refuelling tanker ops yet). And Aleksi too, oh man that sublime soundtrack, YES!! Devs, please carry on and keep going.

So far, this is the best "modern" naval wargame ever made and I have been playing Dangerous Waters, Cold Waters, Fleet Command, Naval War Arctic Circle, Harpoon, Red Storm Rising and Command Modern Operations for years. One of the features I really like is the fact the devs have created the entire planet in the map, so we can literally sail + fly wherever we like (unlike say, Cold Waters or Fleet Command where we are restricted to a "mission area"). Fuel allowing that is, which is why in-flight refuelling is important in a future update. We would definitely need it for let's say, Operation Black Buck in any Falklands 1982 DLC, would we not? So, the game is obviously unfinished (e.g. no campaign), but it's great that we can buy it now to support the devs so that they can do exactly this. Carry on! (as Bart Mancuso said in The Hunt for Red October); Tom Clancy (RIP) would've been proud.

He had harpoon. He and Larry bond used the boardgame version to game out the sea battles in red storm rising

I started re-reading Red Storm Rising a few days before Sea Power was released, and I think it's a novel that always gets me excited no matter how many times I read it.

Maybe if Tom Clancy was still alive, would he do a live stream of Sea Power or something like that? I think that would have been fun, too. I miss him.

I think Tom Clancy is a big reason why many of us are into naval games. My first real serious naval game was Red Storm Rising on the Amiga when I was a kid, which later formed the inspiration for what became Cold Waters.

You all seem to forhget that Tom Clancy signed his one computer submarine game called Tom Clancy SSN. It also came with a great novel explaining ESW. You should have played it!

688 Attack Sub, Red Storm Rising, Harpoon. I played them all. A lot.

You can get Larry Bond's Harpoon Ultimate Edition for only 88.99 on Matrixgames.
