AN/SSQ-53 Sonobuoy range?
Does anyone know or is it listed anywhere what type of range these buoys have? I realize it is based on conditions and layers, but just a ballpark number?

dont know yet. going to do the "charlies" again as i think i put too many. Found both easily.
seems to be about the size of spread of your formation at the start.
But they work. I found both SSGN by helo alone and using MAD. Just go to lowest alt and they will drop it auto. When you find a "noise" surround it with bouys and one helo with MAD going on top. Done.

i did both first NATO "guam" and the Charlies,. I was highly impressed. both worked as they should and only lost one B52 out of both missions. Both worked as i expected with a bit of voice overlapping contact contact..... know how to fix that though.
Yes ships have some odd movement behaviour but that is fixable too

I had the same issue a range would be helpful.

5 nm radius, but dropping platform can't be more that 15nm from sonobuoy to collect data

It's a passive sensor so... how long is a piece of string?

Something banging along at 35kts at 10m depth in 50ft of water cavitating whales into orbit from icy cold water with no wind and waves?

Probably 10nm...

Anything less will probably be something less than that.

A lot less. Like... 3-5nm.

There are so many factors!

The biggest one being that they can only transmit a signal to about 10nm if they do detect something.

So that's the main constraint and the one you should probably plan around...

:)

I'm sure that's an area of the simulation we can expect to develop over time too... Maybe someone with more knowledge than me can dive into the files and give a better answer, but that's a very rough and probably not very real but nonetheless somewhat "real world" answer
