The NATO torps are typically wire-guided.
and cats like wet cat food.
- Break the formation
- Turn each ship away in different directions, about 45-90 degrees away from each other
- Assign all ahead flank on all 3 vessels
- After a while, turn the 2 Grishas outward and back to the original position, like a clover leaf
- Turn the Krivak back
- Try to attack the direction with the Grishas pointing towards each other
The moment you see a torp, start tossing a couple SET-65's in that direction. It might give up its position when it tries to flee, then start firing RBU-6000's at it. If you see a Mk-48 and it's moving in a straight line as you flee and it keeps following, you're probably screwed. If you see it doing a search pattern back and forth, try to flee perpendicular to it at flank speed and you have a chance of avoiding the search pattern.
That mission is pretty hard even for a single vessel. I'm not sure why it's a single star rating.
The PACT version of the scenario is a lot harder than the NATO version.
You have no helicopter, and their torpedoes have a 20nm range, well outside your detection capability.
Since their torpedoes are wire-guided, they will have control to redirect them towards you no matter how much you evade as long as they have that wire intact.
If they move too much, it will break the wire, so once torpedoes are coming your way, your first priority is to make them move a lot.
Draw a line from your own ship that is being aimed at, through the torpedo and make that line 20nm on the map.
That is their maximum launch distance, they are somewhere between where the torpedo is and where that line ends.
If the torpedo is close enough to you, launch one or two of your own torpedoes from your tubes in the suspected direction.
If not, your lead ship has the SS-N-14A, which is a standoff ASW torpedo delivery missile with more range than they can launch from. Send a couple of them their way, and make sure to give it a bit of space between them to cover possible distances.
Hopefully that will make them maneuver enough break the wire, have your ship that is being shot at do evasive maneuvers, and your other two sprint towards the target.
Keep up the pressure while doing this, that means launching additional torpedoes to keep them entertained while you move in.
Have one ship stop now and then to listen to sonar, and don't worry about using your active sonar, the sub knows exactly where you are.
With a lot of luck, your RBUs can intercept incoming torpedoes, but don't count on that.
Good luck.
RBU kill torpedoes with about 50% chance (if torp moves in a straight line).
Just shoot RBUs (but not simultaneously)
Definitely 1-star if you play the NATO side I guess...
If you are a NATO ship , try shutting down you engine and do a turn when it slows down
This business will get out of control, it will get out of control and we'll be lucky to live through it.
