Which is the best air defense against sea skimmers?
I've heard something about a RIM-7 variant in-game being the best at it stats wise

From what i've seen slower moving sea skimmers like penguins and P-15s can be intercepted reliably by CIWS assuming the angle is straight on and the ship is moving slowly or stationary

Airborne radar is honestly the best defense. Allows you to see them at ranges enough to ensure you can pump enough SAMs out there to knock them down. RIM-7 might be better close in because it doesn't use a booster and rate of fire being better. RIM-7 is in a box launcher, so no reloading like a rail mount.
Ideally a mix of SM-xMR/ER and RIM-7, overlapping coverage means your longer ranged ships can thin out the salvo on approach and the RIM-7s will be ready to go against what makes it through, not wasting themselves or the FCR channels unnecessarily.

RIM-7 has a much better chance against sea skimmers, but you typically have a lot less of them, so don't think twice about expending your standard missiles, fire as many as your FCRs allow.

A good air defense in your formation is working in layers, from SM-x to RIM-7 to CIWS like a fruit where the enemy has to peel away multiple layers to get to the juicy flesh.

Turns out the Spruance and Knox aren't as bad as they might seem at first glance ;)

Early warning is the most important factor. Airborne radar is essential to spot them early, and if no radar equipped air assets are available then screening core assets with picket ships is the next best thing
