Unable to start game from Steam

I was able to log into the game 2 days ago without issue. Today, when I tried to run the game from my Steam library, It says "Running" for about 5 seconds, then reverts from the blue "Stop" button to the green "Play" button and no game content loads.

Nothing has changed on Steam and I can't 100% verify that absolutely nothing has changed on my computer over the past 48 hours, but I don't believe anything was changed that I instigated myself.

I tried running the verification check and at first it said one file was having errors and would be replaced, but the problem persisted. When I tried running the tool again, it said it was recreating the login script. But nothing resolved. I eventually uninstalled the game and reinstalled.

Now, the same problem in Steam persists, but I can launch the game from the exe itself in the install folder and get to the login screen. But I can't log into the game because I don't have an official GW2 account. I logged into the game using my Steam account. But now it looks like the local game files are no longer tied to my steam account. I can log into ArenaNet online with my Steam account, because the option is there to do so. But the game launcher doesn't give you that option and my Steam account creds are not being accepted when I try them. I can't use the password reset option, because I never created a GW2 account, so it doesn't know to email the address tied to my steam account either.

Any guidance on this issue would be greatly appreciated. I have now uninstalled and re-installed the game twice with no change to the problem.

Have you tried installing the standalone version, copy and replace into the steam one and try ?

I ended up searching through windows event viewer and found the error code. When I searched that I found out it was tied to Citrix Workspace. I had to uninstall Citrix and reinstall from the command line with some switches that turned off the function that was blocking GW2 from loading. Things seem to be working now.
