no item stack = quit the game
Bothered me that much. I dont care that my backpack gets bigger, or that I will have storage chests (which I assume will also not allow item stacking), or that there is a mod i can spend an hour figuring out how to install to implement it.

Im just going to refund. What an awful, awful mechanic.

LOL, well there is probably a MOD for it. It is one of the things that makes the game unique.

So long.

There is, I'm using it and I can't play without it... I must admit that I agree with Boondock, being able to stack objects (5 stacks is enough) doesn't change much in terms of gameplay.
it just saves you from making thousands round trips.

ok it's an exploration game, walking around is the very principle of the game but having to make the same journeys 10 times to empty a wreck personally I see it as a way to extend the lifespan of a game and not one of the things that makes this game unique

May as well be playing on creative mode at that point. The inventory caps out at 35 item slots and there are only 23 basic item types. You can quite literally have a copy of every basic item in your inventory. By letting it stack, you'd have no reason to ever use storage nor would you ever have to make a decision in the field where your life can be threatened.

Yeah I don't get the complaint. I mean, increasing your inventory space and storage options are part of the gameplay, quite clearly. You have to make bases everywhere. Quite clearly. You go to wrecks and set up a base so you have an oxygen source. Quite clearly. Which includes storage.

And later in the game, drones move stuff for you.

If you could stack items, you would only need one or two boxes and that trivialises the idea of setting up an efficient bases, and removes lots of choices you have to make about how you play the game.

There are different modes you can use if you don't want to play on default difficulty.

It's not like it's Borderlands.

The way I like to play these games is to farm resources stress free and stockpile before advancing stuff. This game makes it too annoying to play that way for me unlike others in its genre.

You generally only need 1-2 full inventories on default settings to complete each stage of the game. This isn't factorio, satisfactory, or anything else where you need literally hundreds to thousands of items to advance each stage. To give an example...
T3 Drills need 2 iron, 2 titanium, 2 aluminum. So a single full inventory (+1) gives you 6 drills. You can do that one more time if you'd like, but that's really all you need in the basic settings until you can make the next tier of drill.
T4 Drills need 6 super alloy and 3 osmium. So a single full inventory (+1) gives you 4 drills. If you do that one more time, you can have the necessary machine count for maximum synergy with a single Machine Optimizer and fuses. And that will complete your pressure requirements for the game. No need for T5 Drills at all.

If you're looking to do things at immense scale, then you'll be looking towards using Drones and Autocrafters in combination with Ore Extractors.. You'll basically not be doing anything by hand at that point anyways.

So these other games you play have unlimited storage and you don't have to build more than one storage box? Can you name one?

I don't get why any game would do that to be honest. It's been how storage works in every game I can even recall playing, as early as stuff like Settlers and Diablo in the 90s.

There are certainly other games with infinite storage. Per Aspera is another terraforming game that has infinite storage (if you don't research storage hilariously). But that game ends up becoming a logistical nightmare. Usually games with infinite storage are more in your rts genre than your fps and more handson genres.

I know that the devs do not want to do MTX's... but hey..."want more storage... that would be 3.99 pls"... :-)

Don't play subnautica then, it has the same mechanic

Since you're straw-manning extremely hard, I'll give you nine examples of inventory stacking, which is what the OP actually said: Songs of Syx, Deep Rock Galactic, No Man's Sky, Star Valor, Avorion, Rimworld, Factorio, Dyson Sphere Program, and Terraria.

The OP didn't say anything about "unlimited storage" or "not having to build more than one storage box", just that the game doesn't have item stacking. In fact, the OP specifically said

so you're being disingenuous.

I can understand and deal with personal inventory not stacking, but inventory chests not stacking at all is quite annoying. Even for base resources to stack would be quite nice QoL improvement. Something like T2.5 and T3.5 chests for base resources to stack (5 is more than fine.) It would be slightly more expensive to build and the only difference it would make is the bases would look a lot cleaner.

Item stacking would just make progress way too fast. I just did another complete play through since they released 1.0 not long ago. I pretty much had everything unlocked in 40 hours and i wasn't even rushing. So you want item stacking. They would just increase mats required for item crafting to adjust and defeat the purpose of why you want it. Build storage lockers around areas with high loot. Take them back to your base when you have time. It is what I do.

This is not minecraft. There are no recipes requiring 32 or 64 of something.
The large majority of recipes require 1-3 of several things.
