Super alloy rods

I'm currently at the moss producing TI stage and finding super alloy rods are the roadblock to being able to speed up terraforming. Anyone else feel that these rods are too far back in the tech tree? Just looking to make the journey less "grindy"

No, nothing is too far back in the tech tree, nothing at all. No matter what you are thinking may be too far back in the tech tree, it is not. The reason is because you control the speed at which things unlock. Just because you unlocked them slowly in your game doesn't mean everyone else did, each game is different.

You can find them in chests and in wrecks to begin with and then send up rockets to speed up the section that unlocks alloy rods and put down more machines I personally never had an issue making the rods or finding enough as I played along but the chests are random

Yeah I got about 3 or 4 from the golden chests. But got all the chests I can for now without going into the higher TI areas like the paradise section. I've already got about 15 T3 drills down and about 8 T3 heaters. Watching the different metrics like heat etc. tick over once per 30 seconds is a bit much especially if you are trying to go from mega to giga.

Super Alloy Rods are based on your overall TI. So you can boost everything to get there. Your machine counts sound very low to me. It takes like 10 minutes to gather the materials for that. I'd double if not triple that and launch a few more rockets to help boost it.
Of course since you're at the moss stage, plants should be very effective if you can put in the effort to throw out some algae T2s and a few dozen flower spreaders.

Super Alloy rods can be crafted out of the 5 base minerals and aluminum. So all you need is a T2 drill in the Aluminum caves and you can craft more superalloy (and subsequentially superalloy-rods) than you may ever need.
