Level 1 ore extractors are inefficient and get lots of metals that aren't your target metal so you need to empty them regularly. On one hand, they're great if you have a big building project. On the other hand - it's a good thing shredders are a thing.
As far at the T1 extractor, I like to set up 10 or so in the aluminium area. I call it my scrap yard, everything converts to super alloy rods. Once auto crafters and drones it works pretty well making super alloy rods. And getting rid of a lot of excess material. I usually don't take them down until I can use T3 extractors.
Osmium can be mined with a T1. There is a cave not far from starting area.

T2 will mine all that T1 can mine and also uranium and osmium as well as some others.
T3 will mine everything but you have to select what it should mine.
