T1 ore extractor - iron only?
No matter where I place it, it always only extracts iron; I've tried the center of a crater hoping for iridium, and on the black ground with aluminium around

Did you select the mineral to extract? There are other areas -- and future upgrades can show you where they are -- but the black ground with aluminum sounds like the correct place. That's why I asked if you selected the mineral.

You have to have higher tier extractors for some stuff. If you put it in the right location though you should be able to select what you want to collect and you will get it and extra with a T1 extractor. Such as sand cave for iridium or osmiuim cave for it.

Iron is the place holder for the common minerals. You will get iron, titanium, silicon. magnesium and cobalt. You will only get aluminum, iridium or sulfur if you are in the corresponding biome rich in that mineral. You need a T2 or T3 to get rarer minerals

You're lucky! Usually at the stage where you only have a t1 you can't get enough iron to save your life.

How do I select it? If I click on the blue chest, there's only the iron icon at the bottom and clicking it does nothing. I can't see any console or any other way of selecting what to extract, and there are no options when I build the extractor

You cannot select anything on T1 extractors. See post #3. Iron is just a placeholder for all common minerals.

On the T1 you cannot select the ore to extract.. Do you want the locations where you can mine iridium, sulfur, and aluminium? I don't want to give spoilers unless asked.

On the T1 extractor if it shows iron you will get the base materials. Cobalt, iron, magnesium, silicon, and titanium. If you place the extractor in the correct place the icon on the machine can show aluminium, iridium, or sulfur. If so you will still get the base materials plus the material shown as the icon in the machine.

I'd prefer to avoid spoilers, exploring the map is part of the fun. But can you confirm this is the correct place for aluminium extraction? Sure looks like one

edited. No, that looks like the meteor zone, no aluminum there.

I don't think that is the aluminium area. If you can get zeolite, osmium, aluminium, pulsar quartz, and base materials, then I know that is the moon scape area and not the aluminium area.

If you place a T1 extractor down, and it shows the aluminium symbol that is the aluminium area. Works the save for iridium and sulfur.

That could be the aluminium area but the cliffs don't look right in the background. The shiny stuff is correct, just not sure about the area.

I'm not sure aluminum even spawns there. That place is for other, rarer stuff.
margalus Apr 12, 2024 @ 1:09pm
Aluminum is right next to the starting area. Normal looking ground, with aluminum scattered around. When you place the extractor you should see an aluminum ingot in the display.

You can choose a different landing zone though.

I've selected a crater as my landing zone, not the default one. There definitely is plenty of aluminium on the ground in this area; some pulsar quartz and osmium too, I guess that's what you meant by rarer stuff

Tier 1 has a chance to get the mineral for the area you set it. But youll still get plenty of silicon, iron, magnesium and titanium. They need emptied a lot. Youll need to place the tier 1 in the correct areas, in the cave with the red stuff will give you some of those. The aluminum fields will give you aluminum.
Random places will just give you the basic elements only.

most people do not choose a different landing area. Only people who know what theyre doing will choose something besides the default area.
