Pretty much this yea. Had entered larva stage and I didn't see any spawning. Then I went into the dusty/sandstorm area right behind the starting pod. And they started spawning like crazy on the beach over there. Even plenty of 1200% butterfly larvae. I didn't even have to make any larvae in the DNA manipulator as I found 6 1200% ones in no time down there.
Planet Humble is weird, imo. Some seemingly basic things are harder to find than on the prime planet. Yet other materials, if you know where to look, are easily found in larger quantities than on the prime planet. It's not necessarily bad, but the change in availability of resources takes quite a bit of getting used to.
Often times the best way to get larvae to spawn is to find a spot either on the beach to the south of the map, or in the caves, and just stand still there for a few moments, the game will then usually start spawning in up to 16 larvae in a certain radius all around you within seconds to a minute.
If you try this and you still don't see any larvae spawning within a few minutes, and you know you're sufficiently far into the game that they should appear, then most likely the game has randomly bugged, in which case simply save, exit back to the main menu, and then rejoin your worldsave, and hopefully the larvae should start to appear.
Maybe it's meant to indicate that this hill warms up faster than the rest of the planetoid due to the lava below? Whatever, they are there, and every time I go up there once the Ti is high enough for larvae to start spawning, there is lots of them all around.
You don't get many (if any) the butterflies that will spawn down on the beach, but there is oodles of the regular three kinds of larvae up there usually, and they show up a fair while before the fog layer above the beach clears....
Maybe the issue is that all larvae spawn on places that have no caves underneath them or fall through and spawn in the caves instead.
In my latest gameplay i explored the big cave that connects almost all biomes eccept those in the northern region where are almost no caves exept a wreck burried in the mountainfoot with it's rear end of the ship hanging out needing an explosive charge to enter.
the trees that grow there are a reflection on what trees you use in the treespreaders how coincidental is this
The beach spawns all sorts of them. Even found a golden butterfly larva occasionally.
And some others i like the golden ones : No need to buy them with terratokens
And the new butterflies can be used to create The New Hydreqoos
