Auto crafter problem
My autocrafter is taking algae from the spawners but not producing anything. So, to test it, I moved a spawner away from the autocrafters area and picked some algae manually then placed the algae in a box next to the crafter and the autocrafter immediately started working.
Is anyone else having this problem ?

Autocrafters have a problem with harvesting algae straight from the generators. For now, place a cupboard near the crafter, and occasionally go for a swim gather algae, and put it in the cupboard. Perhaps a later fix with make the swimming unnecessary.

I've experimented a lot with this, you can get an autocrafter to grab algae sometimes, but even if you do it will stop after a little while. I think it doesn't detect when new algae grows.

I also have a problem with eyelashes. First the autocrafter recognizes it, then it doesn't. I still have to disassemble the algae generator and rebuild it.

Oh im glad this discussion have come up, i was going mad trying to get this to work too, so eventually i gave up, and have gotten back to just manually crafting stuff that require algae, im glad im not the only one who have the problem, wich means it most likely is something that will be fixed in a future patch.

Using auto-crafter is still an improvement, as it will automatically pull other resources, for example water. So to craft Bacteria Samples, you only have to resupply a locker with Algae.

Since there is no vertical limit I made a platform above my autocrafter and put some water collectors on it, then put farms, beehives, gas extractors and T3 miners around it, can craft just about anything as long as I fill a nearby locker with algae. So I think algae is the only thing the autocrafter can't grab reliably.

I first tried building a platform over the water to place an algae generator just below the crafter, but it had the same issues as placing them side by side.

In my experience T2 algae farms have too big a radius. They would grow a lot of algae outside the radius of the autocrafter. I switched to T1 algae farms and I have no issues with the autocrafter using environmental algae. With 12 T1 algae farms each for my mutagen and fertilizer crafting set ups I never run out of either unless I make like 16 mushroom trees all at once.

Ahh cool thx, i never thought of downgrading the algae farms, i am definately gonna try this.

Algae farms just don't work for autocrafting right now. Instead, I setup an autocraft area near the sulfur deposit so I can mine for sulfur. Make some outdoor farms, water generators, and then you can drop by and deposit stacks of algae. Quickly lets you process algae into all its products.

We can not say that the autocrafter does not work for algae, except that the autocrafter prevents the regrowth of algae, the autocrafter will transform the algae he has within his reach until exhaustion, after some time, restart the game and the algae will be pushed back, I imagine this problem will be a priority for the Devs in my opinion, a patch will probably be made soon.

It does work with Algae - I posted an answer to a similar thread on this- and the solution for me.

"Loving the Autocrafter" thread.

Autocrafters pull from supply bins & closets, NOT directly from a source. An example is Algae that is fully grown, requires the player to grab it and put it into a bin/storage locker. It's like having a food processor for the eggplant. If the eggplant is still in the grower even if it is at 100% it will not be pulled. The farmer has to grab the eggplant put it into the locker then the food processor will recognize it ready for consumption.
