Set the priority relatively high, then. Even with massive activity, drones will still stop and dock from time to time.
It is true that it took a while for the entire set of T1 drones to be placed in the demand container, but it happened.
They should still improve it because it's a silly system - not least because the drone station lists your drones but doesn't tell you which are tier one or two so you don't know if you've got any left. Now, I check the number I have before building any tier 2 ones, and recall them all to a storage locker and make sure I've got them all before I disassemble any Tier 1s. I write down the number of T1 before building any - I'd forget it if I didn't.
Basically it's a tedious chore and it doesn't add anything to the game to have it this way.
Currently available drones won't use teleporters, but I've always thought that would have been a good upgrade for if they ever decide to add T3 drones.
I'd prefer they didn't phase through objects but could use teleporters. I think in the long run this would be best
Me, I do drones the easy way - I don't make any until I have the chip to unlock and make the level two drones, I have everything else ready to go by then, and no messing about swapping them out - too much trouble so far as I'm concerned, easier just to avoid it altogether.
It's not as if it takes heaps of time or trouble, just a few rounds of loading up the space-crates (trade rockets) manually, but it's not that big a deal, and you don't have to do it for all that long if you buy the level 2 drone chip first. (Or second - I usually get the larger storage first)
But it's all 'cause I'm a big fan of Keeping It Simple. Over-complicating things is easy - keeping it simple is the tough part of the job. ;-D
