Problem with mouse left click

Left clicking on an item in inventory or an asset in the build menu will stop working. To fix it I must save and quit. When I restart it works for a short time and then quits again. Not running any mods.
Update: seems to be about 15 minutes between time outs. Just happened again.

The fact the issue seems to occur approx. every 15 minutes kinda suggests that the cause of the issue might lie outside of the game. A few questions:

Are you using a wireless mouse?

Do you have a screensaver, or any kind of display-saver options set to run after a period of inactivity?

Are you using a laptop and/or have any kind of power-saving settings enabled whether the device is plugged in or on battery?

Also, are you playing the demo or full version of the game, and does this issue affect the main Prime world, the Humble DLC world, or both?

I am using a wireless mouse but it was plugged in and charging at the time.
I do not use a screen saver.
I do use a laptop but it was plugged and charged and the power options are set for the HD to never sleep.
I am playing the full version on the Prime planet and have not had the problem until recently. I am about 75% completed to full terraformation.

An update on the problem. I switched to a wired mouse from a different company with no change. The left click function while accessing any inventory or a build item still timed out and stopped working. Other areas in the game requiring a left click still work.

Just curious, does it happen on all saves or just one. And just this game or any? And of course as someone will mention eventually, maybe verify game files.

All other windows apps and games function normally. Verifying the game files was one of the first things I did. Also uninstalled and reinstalled the game with no change.

I had the same issue. Left clicking on any item in my inventory or any container (or even in my backpack) did nothing. Right clicking on items (like food) or left clicking to drop items still worked. Left clicking on those items would also work for the first 5 or so minutes of gameplay.

This issue only began to happen to me at a very late terraforming stage of the game.

My solution: I was hosting multiplayer, so I gave the game files to another player and they are now the host. The game has worked fine for me since then, with them hosting. It might have been a hardware issue with my computer.

Rather than restart the game, as a quick test try scrolling the mouse wheel forwards & backwards and then immediately try clicking on the item/inventory slot again.
