Show me your storage room solutions!
I'm playing with a few different inventory setups and need some ideas!

I'll do you one better.

My entire base design (I made it in creative mode to test designs incorporating the new stairs).

https://www.twitch.tv/videos/2324996128

It allows for 1 locker for each material, and 2-3 lockers for some of the materials you use a lot of in the Biolab, and room to add even MORE lockers.

It's designed to be as compact as possible, with as little walking between commonly visited areas as possible, while putting stuff you rarely have reason to go to further away.

I didn't add DNA Manips, Incubators, or aquariums yet but there's plenty of room for those and their supporting lockers.

Well... when I was spending time cleaning every resource from every biome from half the map in the demo, I made myself a warehouse for storage. Not sure I'd recommend it, but it has proven useful to me for bulk item storage (nearly 200,000 items).

I've covered it since this picture (and it's mirrored on the other side), but... it is technically an option?

indoor fancy: just several corridors with lockers on both sides. it's more about grouping related materials together than anything. (use colors to make stuff easier to find.)

quick and dirty: foundation with lockers outdoors. honestly just useful in general too, usually put some next to my front door. and it's very useful to have near the portal generator. dropping a foundation + blue box is also quite useful early game.

automated: just start at the back of a room and put 2-3 lockers directly in front of eachother with an autocrafter. fill up entire room without walking space since drones don't care about that. typically remove the door when i am done too.

I used to do this until I discovered the magic of using a 2x2 room and lining the walls with lockers and sticking a crafting station in the middle. Easily enough room to make one locker for every material.

Using hallways with lockers on the side makes you do lots of walking to find what you need; putting everything in a square room with the crafting station in the middle of it is much more efficient and clean. It just requires the 2x2 room unlock. You COULD do a 3x3 later, but I'd think that'd be utterly overkill.

And I know some people love being extreme hoarders but there's very few instances where one locker full of each material isn't enough. In fact, later in the game I end up shredding 80% of what my drones bring in because they gather it faster than I use it except for Biolab materials.

you can fit like what, 30 lockers in a room like that? i feel thers 80-100 materials easy.

think i had 4x14 lockers last time and while i did have to walk around a lot, i also didn't have a lot of spare room.

I prefer to keep lockers on the walls. ~3-4 per wall, so 8 wall sections gives you about 20 lockers, excluding 1 wall that is the entrance.

I tell you what though, the new furniture clipping is ludicrously awesome. You can now fit 1 extra locker in normal adjacent 1x1 rooms thanks to being able to clip a locker into those stupid ribs between rooms that made a room JUUUUST slightly too small to fit one more locker.

Does that use the 2x2 open room hab? Would love to see how this is built step by step so i can give this layout a try

There is one 2x2 room, it's the room with all the lockers on the walls and the crafter in the center.

The rest are all 1x1 rooms and stairs along with lots of those wall panels to cover up holes, and obviously stuff like the biolab, the biodomes, etc.

EDIT: Sorry, I lied. Two 2x2 rooms, the 2nd is the room with the food growers.

EDIT2: I decided to say 'screw it' and do a full build video:

I didn't add ALL the lockers n crap, but the layout is the same with a couple small things I added on.

Sorry, I don't have any pictures. But I like to build a + with 1x1 rooms. From the center room, I build each leg with 4 1x1 rooms, then fill each side with either the biolab or a 2x2 room. Then line the outside with 1x1 rooms except I like the corner glass room in each corner.

Gives me a building 7x7 with an extra 1x1 room in the middle of each side with a door for entrances. I like to use T2 storage lockers, can fit 3 in each 1x1 room around the outside. For the 2x2 rooms I have the biolab, 6 incubators in another, 5 DNA manipulators dna extractor and synthesizer in another, and the last room has advanced crafting station T2 crafter recycler and shredder.

I also have it all on foundations and put T2 storage around the outside on the foundations as needed. Mostly, honey and bee larva at the most used outside door. On the incubator side I have all the phyto a, b, and c, and all the fish eggs. All the basic materials go outside as well.

I have a second floor for display items like effigies, space suits. Also storage for plant and food seeds, space food, blue chips and any other excess item that is used rarely.

My solution is easy, I use the stacking mod, with stacks of 50, so most of the time I just need 1 t2 locker for each item.
