No thanks, I wanted to explain why I honestly didn't care enough to be certain about which genes I'd found in Humble. Which is what I did. After explaining where I found extra genes. Because that gives you context about why I think I know where you'd get those genes, but I can't be sure - because I simply don't care about the system. I do care where I have to get obsidian on the ground in Humble because that's a bit that's useful to me.
My recollection is I found spawned animals before I bothered building an animal pen because you really don't need those to complete the game, and I don't care about them and the system is clunky... stroked a couple and got genes.
It seems probable that'd be the genes you wanted. On the other hand, I suppose I could have forgotten having built an animal shelter, somewhere and those animals were one I made in the first place.
But I'll comment on any thread I want thanks and I have no qualms about upsetting your fee fees if I don't like part of the game that you did. If I'd wanted to insult you, I'd have been more direct than that but I don't care that YOU like it, it's a bad system that's not enjoyable. It's overly complicated, it's fiddly, it takes ages to get the genes, and some of the genes are quite obscure or from things you definitely don't want to lose (like quartz).
You might also look in portals.
Whoops! You missed the helpful part - where he said he got the genes by stroking the wildies. That's the problem with getting miffed, you tend not to see things that are right in front of you. Remember, it IS a game! (Plus, you will get more flies with honey... ;-)
Besides, he's right - the animal system IS clunky. In fact, the whole 'creating things with the incubator' is clunky too. Unless you don't care what kind of results you get. The ecosystem is pretty useless too, as there's no way to ask it to produce what you need. But that doesn't stop some of us from liking it anyways. Really, nothing wrong with a little honesty, eh? Happy petting! :-)
She already said she'd done that, with no results. Oooops? Missed it?
I never read anywhere that you could pet animals to get new genes. I only read that they will give genes that they are made with.
I will defiantly give this a try! Thank you!
Well, it's random, isn't it? Don't you have to look in an offensively large number of portals to find all the things you wish you hadn't had to look in portals for?
I get why people wouldn't, because the mazes are horrible. On the plus side, they're not jumping puzzles ;)

The one I am struggling to get that you can only get from petting is species 5. Im getting fed up with petting and getting the same colour pattern again and again and again and again, yet still have not got the species 5. Devs please increase the possibility for getting this one!
Have you gone and looked in the new desert biome behind the Stargate? There are a couple of herds of species 5 there you can pet and get the species gene from. After you get a couple, make your own and pet them a lot. My biggest challenge is getting the colors I want. There are some you can't make, you can only get them from random animals.
I keep a "testing" habitat by my base for trying out combinations of colors and variants. When I find the ones I like in a given species, I make some and pet them a lot to get more. It takes time, but it pays off. I have T2's filled with traits now.
I managed to get them by launching animal rockets, then found a herd up on some high plains! <3 I am doing the same, experimenting with colours and patterns with some at my base and have T2 storages filling up with traits to play with.

As long as you have created at least one animal species (usually species 1, 2, or 3), you will begin to see free-roaming small herds of various species in different biomes across the map. This is true of Humble too. They are all tame, you can walk or fly right up to the wildies and pet them to see what you will get.
I've finally just gotten species 5 on Humble, and I'm almost to 3 TTi by now, I think close to 40% of the way to full terraforming-ish. Comes fairly late in the game, it seems! But it is cool to see the herds here and there in the landscape. Different animals will herd up in different areas, too, which is kind of interesting to figure out.
