Quartz in general direction?

I can't find quartz to mine it. I'm at the stage where I am in need of quartz. But I'm not having any luck. The map isn't showing any so I'm assuming we can't drill for a specific ore?

For Base Game. There is the Rainbow Caves to the north for all types of quartz. Assuming the ice has melted. Quartz can't be mined.

find harvestable nodes, wait for pulsar meteor, find it in loot crates, or craft it once ya have the recipe unlocked

My ice has melted but I've not come across the rainbow caves. Did not know there was one. Thanks and much appreciated

Normal game or DLC? Rainbow cave is in normal game. From my memory, north from starting location (behind dust storm desert) was area which melted and had a lot of water/rivers. Entrance to cave was around western border, follow water. But I may be wrong.

sounds about right, can also cut through the uranium cave in that area and pop out just east of the rainbow caves.

1, Some can be found by exploring and looting chests. Once you got correct teraform stage.
2, Sometimes one big meteor with maybe dozen of them come to you. (Not shower, but one meteor). I think it happened twice for me. Careful, they may despawn if you quit game.
3, In some moment, you get ability to craft pink quartz. (175 GTI in original game)
4, In advanced game, some time after you get access to beach under cliff next to your spawn (originally dust storm) you get another source Small rock formations resembling cairn will change into rainbow eggs. May be easier to find during dark. Check screen on T3 ore crusher to know, what are you looking for.
5, Did not tried, but Portal generator should be able to get acess to a good loot, sadly you need some starting quartz there.

May seem strange, but I actually enjoyed fact, that they are scarce.

If you need Pulsar Quartz, you eventually can craft it or get it from rare, single purple meteors. But the 4 other types of quartz must be found. As mentioned above, the base game has the "Rainbow Caves" with all the quartz, while the DLC has the "rainbow eggs" (Cosmic Quartz) that become available later in the game. Much like the above post, I also haven't had the chance to see if you can get a positive gain of quartz from portal runs. I think you at least seem to break even from portals, at least (you get back the quartz you used to open the initial portal).

It's really frustrating because I have the teleporters and now the drone station is also unlocked and no quartz anywhere. Nothing at the beach either. At about what level of terraformation do the start to pop up? I found enough in chests for the teleporter x2. Nothing else afterwards.

if you have the lab check in there to see if it is unlocked. If so you can make it there. Have done that many times to get things rolling.
