explosives not the same as explosive powder?

There are boulders blocking my way, saying they can be removed with explosives.
I have come with explosive powder but nothing happens. Is that powder something different?
(And do I just need to click at the boulders to make them go boom?)

Correct (your title i mean), you use explosive powder to construct explosives.

soooo: use the lab to combine explosive to a chip (for to have it go boom!) then drop homemade bomb next to such obstacles, press the chip that gives you 5 seconds then run away for 5 seconds

Assuming, of course, that you've progressed far enough to unlock the Explosive (tier 9 in the Blueprint Microchips chain, so usually late-game).

Explosives are a random chip unlock. I got mine like 5 minutes away from game completion, your results may vary.
