How and where to use the warden key ?

I would like to know what I should do with the warden key, because since the start of the game I have found 8 of them, but I don't know what they are for and where to use them.

The fact of not using the warden key before the end of the terraforming gives me the feeling of having missed out on part of the game, is that the case?

There are 2 "miniplays" with the Warden Keys.
The first one is a short one, where you will find the coordinates for the use of the key on the socket where you find that key,

The second one is part of the endgame, after activating the Warden key finder chip.

Based on you other mail, you have installed the chip, but you seem to have missed the Warden key in one of the caves.

You can acquire all the keys and use some before complete terraforming. The first 10 keys (one - one - three - five) open warden locations with decent loot at the last stop. Later in the game a warden key locator can help find 10 of the 13 keys spread around the map (locator not necessary - just a bit easier) - the three extra keys are just a bit of insurance from your friends, the dev's. You can acquire these late keys before complete terraformation, but won't assist in one of the three possible endings (and yes - by saving before each ending, you can experience all three endings) which only become possible after complete terraformation: 5Tti.

No, once activated those keys are no longer available.

In theory the three locked keys must be in stone holders to the ancient sites. You might try to complete the progress to the palace (recheck coordinates to each location on the stone holders that provided the keys you have) - and get that loot OR just proceed terraforming because the ending that requires ten keys doesn't lock up keys and there are thirteen keys added to the map, so there are plenty more available to find. Kinda like seed or blue chips: game provides way more than minimum needed.
